One of my lot is an older boy - still ridden and occasionally taken to a show, but slowing down rapidly now. His Flu/Tet vaccinations are due next month so I am wondering if he should still have them done. What do you think?

I would, tetnus is horrific if contracted plus mine is always out and about and a busy yard so comes into contact with lots of other horses and not everyone is a responsible owner.

Always tetanus and would include flu if horse travels at all or is in contact with others that do as at that age their immune system is more vulnerable so if they caught anything it could be a lot worse than normal for them. A small price to pay for peace of mind I think.

I would. As likely to catch tet with a field injury anyway, & if you're paying the call out you might as well pay for the flu for peace of mind.

Yes mine is 33 still vac'd for flu and tet, even though he rarely goes anywhere other than hacking, other horses do go competing on the yard so like to be safe

Always tet. Initially didn't do flu as horse was on a small non-competitive yard, but had to when I moved him as yard policy (and the yard was a dealing yard) Would rather not do flu, but it depends where we are when it is due.

ok will do! thought as much but wondered if others did it....
He is a dear old thing - it is indeed a small price to pay.

My 3 ridden/competition horses, plus my would-be broodmare are all vaccinated for flu and tet, because they travel/will come into contact with strange horses/ a competition venue may require it.

My 31 year old pasture ornament no longer has flu jabs, but I still keep up the two-yearly tetanus jabs for her.

Have no plans to stop doing as I currently am.

My vet advised me to get tetanus done but not to bother with flu unless they mix wth other horses - which mine don't at the mo.

I have, however, just had both done because it looks like I might be moving them to a livery yard temporarily.

I would. I have all mine done. Even the ones that dont leave the field hardly still get it done, because my others do go out and mix with other horses, and could potentially come back and infect the stay-at-homes, so its not worth it for me to take a chance :)

My old chap just has tet, as he became very ill after flu jab and vet (RVC head guy) recommended not flu jabbing him any more as it made him so sick.

But my younger girl has both even tho they are kept at home.

NB dont worm close to flu jab-bing, we think the combination was what made my boy sick, keep a good gap between the two.

I still have mine done even though they dont go anywhere because I wonder if I had an insurance claim for anything the company might try and wriggle out of it if vaccs not up to date?
