Would you feed it?

I think I know the answer to this question but will ask it anyway ...

Mice have been in my oats and I see a few (I mean few) droppings in there and it smells a little bit 'mousy' - I have discovered a hole in the bottom of the bin so that's where they're getting in. I've put the oats in another bag in another bin but didn't put any in his feed tonight and will buy some fresh tomorrow - however, I suspect he has been fed them, droppings an' all for the last few days.

Would you feed them to your horse or throw them out?

I am going to throw them out tomorrow and buy a fresh bag and a new bin without a hole in it!

I'd feed it to the horses... they eat GRASS out of a MUDDY field... which cats dogs foxes badgers mice voles rats etc etc pee and poop in... I wouldn't even think about it.

yes but they have a whole field of grass to chose from and it is not disguised by other feed
bag of oats compared to vet bill for goodness knows what?? Not too mention what suffering it could cause

I don't think that it's too likely for horses to catch much from mice really? Why not offer them a handful and see if they are willing to eat it? If not, throw it.

Can people please explain why they would or wouldn't feed the oats.
I was told years ago that if rats pee on your feed that you should throw it away was never told why.
I have always stored feed in metal bins to stop the rats/mice.

Rats carry weil's disease, I would not feed anything that had been "invased" by rats but I would worry less about mice.

personally I just dont think it is worth the risk for the price of a bag of feed

As rats and mice are both rodents and mice are incontinent (sp) wouldn't mice carry weil's disease as well?
Well just answered that question myself with the help of goggle. Mice do carry weil's disease.
Thinking I will be getting a ferret for the yard

I wouldnt, more because once you know about it then it doesn't seem very nice to feed it anyway than because of the risk of any infections.

I wouldn't feed it. If mice have been in the feed, chances are rats mights have been too.

If you've got mice or rats they will be running all over your hay peeing and pooping too!
