Would you find it rude??

[ QUOTE ]
I think it is very rude. I often admire someone's car/horse/dog, and would never ask how much it was. I would for a house though - weird that...

Not really, there is always a good chance that a horse will soon be on the market or that the owners would sell for right price. How often do you see people wanting to sell their dogs? And if a car si for sale there is normally a sign in a window so no need to ask.

I've had it asked a few times too, it always really stumps me cos I find it very rude, even from the people who are genuinely interested in the breed, if they are interested in owning one they should find out how much they cost while doing research into the breed. I tend to just avoid answering

I am one of those people who is always stopping to say what a stunning dog that is, or what breed is he/she? I would never dream about asking a price though......I'd go home and look up prices! If I was asked though I would say something like "Not as much as he has cost me in food/vets bills"

I was always very flattered when people actually stopped their cars to say how beautiful Ali (my arab) was, no-one sees Boston much because we don't go out, but visitors always ask how old he is and everytime they say "he's going to be huge" but not as big as the lovely Finn. I'm glad he came through his op OK and hope that he's back to his usual chirpy self very shortly

Prose, I'd be stopping you to admire your little girl too, I am not really a small dog person but I love her, character shines through in every photo you show us.

I think it's bloody rude!

Unless you know someone very well, that is a question that should never be asked IMHO; it's personal to you and as such should be respected.

[/ QUOTE ]Phewf glad I'm not the only one... TBH I don't mind telling people I know and who I trust - but for a stranger to ask IMO is rude...

Like I said above if they have engaged in a long convo then I don't always mind saying.... my OH always says "he's yours for a grand!!"

LOL!!

[ QUOTE ]
Very rude....I'd just lie..lol

[/ QUOTE ]I just don't say!!

TBH we got a bargain with my boy - his bloodstock is being sold for twice wat we paid - so his 'ourchase' value isn't a true value of his stock!!

[ QUOTE ]
VERY rude, would never think of doing it.
If they want to know the rough value of the dog/breed its easy enough to find out form a breeder/sales page.

[/ QUOTE ]Tis what I think!!

I guess people are interested but then they need to respect others privacy!!!

[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't tbh as perhaps they are seeing what one will cost if they like him?
Same as I wouldn't find people asking if our horses are for sale rude.

[/ QUOTE ]Hmmm but if your that interested in them - surely you can contact a breeder?

No but asking if they are for sale and asking the value are 2 totally different things!!!

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks hun, don't get me wrong I LOVE that people admire him... infact it makes me chuckle when I walk around (OK get dragged round) and all I hear is "oh Ridgeback" "Oh what a big Ridgeback" "Wow isn't he stunning" "What a wonderful color" etc and when they ask me about him and I say his age (now nearly 8 months) they are sssooo shocked at his size and equally shocked at the amount he eats!! LOL!!

I still see him as an ickle dog - don't know why - maybe cos he is my baby!!

[/ QUOTE ]Thanks sweets - he's BACK!! He's bouncing around like a nutter - kissing me - following me like a lamb, getting under my feet - Actually under my a*s - his new thing is he like to walk between my legs - BUT that doesn't work as I'm so short he doesn't fit to I end up on tip toes on one leg!!!! LMAO!!

I don't know if it is rude tbh - is it not just curiosity?... is curiousity rude?

I also change my answer dependent on what other questions people have asked. If they seem like they are overly interested in my dog in particular (with having had dog thefts round our way) I explain we got him very cheap because of problems he has. If they are interested because they are being polite I tell the truth about him. If they are interested in the breed and they actually knew what he was before being told I give them honest answers about the breed. Finally if they are interested because it looks a 'hard dog' I exaggerate widely about the cost

[/ QUOTE ]No curiosity is not rude - the way people ask is!! If I went up to a complete stranger and asked how much they paid for a 'living' thing... then that would be rude.. IMO!!

[/ QUOTE ]I think most people ask about Finn cos he's STUNNING!! LOL ... he is a 'eye catching' dog and some of the people asking me are the sort of people that you wouldn't want to have dog or at least not to encourage so I more often than not tend not to give an amount - or comment TOO much!!!
