Would you freezemark your dog?

Nope - with greyhounds there isnt enough muscle/fat under the skin IMHO so I wouldnt want to do it. They are both microchipped, although obviously that isnt a visible deterant

There is'nt enough room to freeze mark Bumble Dog, she is only ickle! She is microchipped and presently that is good enough for Defra to allow her to travel to France and back.

but I think they are easier to keep under your eye at all times, which can help ie most arent out in a field remote from peeps property like their horses might be?

good point tho.

Oh yeah - always forget the greyhound is tattooed

- that is why they now cut their ears off when they dump them

I would if it were easily done - but I don't believe it is. My cats are chipped though they don't leave the garden and are fairly old moggies but I would if it were possible.

I know some dogs have marks in their ears done.

my dogs are all microchipped and have a tag to that effect on their collars. My dogs are around me and the house at all times so the chance of them being stolen is low. If they stray/are injured and are taken to a vet they will be scanned as a matter of course. If they are taken by the dog warden/police or rescue homes they are scanned as standard. Unlike a horse which will not be scanned as standard by dodgy - and some not so dodgy auction houses. Vets go out to horses and they don't carry the scanner as standard so it is very rare that a horse will be scanned when a vet visits. THe only scanning as standard on horses is on racecourses. THe value of a dog is far far far less than a horse. And yes dogs get stolen but they are in most cases not as easy targets as horses as they are in most cases nt left in fields by roads with no one near.

We had our dog stolen as a puppy - right in front of a police horse box!! The problemwe had was describibg the dog to the general public - lots of people responded to our 'help' poster but the dogs varied in size and shape.... A clearly identified mark which is highly visible would have helped - on the basis of this we did freezemark the horses..

The good news was we did eventually get our dog back ...

No, any one who stole our two would quickly return them!

Also, I don't know if this is true but I was told they don't tend to steal Castrated dogs as they can't use them for breeding.

So how many of you would freezemark your dog??

I don't know - do you think it would work??

My dogs are all tattooed. Okay I know a thief could cut their ear off - but would still make them rather distinctive.

Tbh I don't know why more people don't tattoo their dogs, liek freezemarking it is a visible deterrent as oppose to microchipping which can only be found with scanner.
