In summer my horse seems to pick up any stone in a twenty mile radius. He will go into the arena and within about three steps be lame and I have to pick them out from right up in the corner of the frog but theyre not trapped by the shoe. Doesnt happen to any other horse on the yard and doesnt happen in winter either. It seems like every pebble is just perfectly sized for his groove and even when the surface has just been done he will find that one stone that didnt get raked back down.
My farrier said there are pads he could put in under the shoe to help stop it but my main worry would then be moisture being trapped in the field and causing thrush that I wouldnt be able to see (he doesnt have thrush now in case you wonder. This happens every summer!)
