Would you give 'the finger' to a driver?

Last time I did it, I dislocated my shoulder (it was already waiting for an operation) and I was left in the middle of a main road, crying, with my arm in agony every time my fit event horse moved!! Think thats karma! I haven't done it since, a frustrated shake of the head and roll of the eyes works just as well, or else I do what my ex (policeman) used to do, tap the side of my head and shout think!

Just read all of the PH thread and it's absolutely terrified me.

How can people have those opinions? I just...I don't even know what to say. I hope none of us ever come across them. What horrible, terrifying people.

Please don't judge the many by the few! We're not all like that and, for what it's worth, I disagree with the attitude of many on there! :)

I wouldn't worry too much, there are people in all walks of life and on all forums who talk out of their arses and on that particular thread they just have an abundance  At the end of the day if they're so worried that they're going to skid on **** they won't be speeding and increasing the chances of losing control.
There are idiots who drive cars the same as there are idiots who ride horses all you can do is be courteous to the considerate and report the dangerous, and that goes both ways. :)

No because you never know if it's a complete nutter who's driving! OH told me about a lady he knows who did something similar, driver stopped got out with a shotgun  and threatened her!

If a twit in a car passes me whilst I'm doing my not very regular roadwork I don't do anything, no smile, no nod, nothing.
However when nice considerate drivers pass me I go the whole hog, grin like a loony, wave and nod :D

Hi

I hate to admit it but I have. I know it extremely rude and probably not very helpful but there have been a couple of occasions when their actions have been so dangerous and have enraged me so much that I have (I don't make a habit of it). And every time I wish I hadn't (felt like such a chav doing it!)

Normally though I am always super polite and always give everyone a massive smile and a thank you. Even if I think the driver could have slowed down more I will still always say thank you as I always think that if we are all polite drivers will start to have more time for horses and drivers!!

It does annoy me though when I pass horses (or stop for them to pass) and you don't even get acknowledged!! No wonder some drivers despair with riders!

I've kicked a good few cars and banged a few car roofs with my whip, just shows you how close they try to pass on single lane roads

One guy got out the car to em which he got and earful and I trotted my horse right at him swinging said whip, he got back in and drove off.

My gelding buried his back feet in a cars front grill once. She was right up my backside revving the engine on a humped back bridge and he couldn't take it any more and gave her nice Mercedes both barrels. Needless to say that turned into a drama but motorists around and behind her stopped got out and gave her what for. Insurance ruled in my favour thankfully all my boy got was some gazes and feather missing.

I tried that once as an experiment with the third finger. I got one right back as they whizzed on by, so that didn't work, lol! Then my daughter came up with an even better idea. She pointed her I-phone at him, which screamed of evidence of this situation and they smartened right up immediately. Worked like a charm! You could see the immediate change of attitude on his face when he saw that I phone!

No, terribly rude. But then I gave up riding on the roads more than 20 years ago as far too dangerous. But expecting any member of the general public to know anything at all about how horses react is foolish in the extreme: they won't know how close is too close, how fast they're supposed to go or that they're actions will have reactions in the horse and his behaviour. Their actions will most likely not be deliberate and if we then flip them off don't be surprised when you get reactions like those on the PH forum. Horse riders DON'T own the roads.
