There is a Fun ride about 2 miles from where I keep Charlie on Sunday and I am really tempted to go. The thing is I would have to go alone

as the girls are away at a PC event.

I would have to hack there and back so I would probably only do the short route which is 6 miles, the longer route is 12.

One thing that concerns me is that I have only done one fun ride on him before and he was quite silly, didn't worry me too much but he may be worse this time. Plus I'm not sure how I would pay etc as I know he won't stand still and if I get off he may not let me get back on

!

It would be good experience for him but I am just not sure I want to go it alone! What would you do?

I would go!

I am going o a fun ride on my own in August - I have no choice half the time because she is stabled at home on her own with her owners other pony! (Make sense - she is not mine!)

The way I see it, if you wait to do things with other people all the time you could miss out on a lot. Worry about any problems when and if they crop up I say

Have fun if you do go

Yes! And I did on Wednesday. Just take your phone with you, wear your body protector, (I put in a slightly stronger bit too, just in case) and go and have fun. You will probably end up meeting up with someone and making friends anyway.

First thing I ever did on T was a hunt fun ride on my own! One of the girls on the yard was supposed to take her new, green horse too and couldn't as she went lame, so I just went on my own, hacked there, too. I got him mid June (will be 3 years next week, can't believe it!), broke him in 6 weeks or so and the ride was in August. Probably not the most sensible thing to do but you won't know until you try and you can always hack home if he's over the top. He'll probably surprise yopu and behave while everyone else prats about

Definitely I do them all the time and found it better to go on my own, because i can go at my own pace, and you rarely are alone cause you ride along with others so GO, you will love it dont let something silly like that stop you, have a great time and dont forget to get the photographer to take some pictures as they are amazing and cheap xx

I would go and enjoy yourself. I went on my own to one last year as my usuall companion was competing elsewhere. I thought that it would be a chance to take my mare without another "pal" to race against and she was fine. My only regret was that I saw another rider on her own by the box but didn't like to ask if she wanted any company however we ended up together for the last few miles. As regards paying I am sure that if you ask someone would be kind enough to hold him whilst you paid etc. Hope you enjoy yourself !

Oh, Just remembered my other problem! We are having 'issues' at the moment hacking out alone. Getting there might be a problem

I always go on fun rides on my own, tbh I hate the thought of galloping off into the sunset without brakes in a crowd of other horses. Riding on our own means that I can dictate the pace, jump what I want and do the shorter route if the horse is playing up. I much prefer it when there is just me and my horse. Horses can get silly when they are with other horses. If your horse is troublesome do what I did and change your horses bit, my horse was nappy, stroppy and strong in a snaffle, now in his pelham he is like a different horse, controllable, sensible and a pleasure to ride. Please always remember to take your mobile phone and key in the contact number of the organiser before you leave the start of the ride. That way if you run into trouble or have an accident there is someone there. I also carry a whistle, bandage and a penknife so I am prepared for every eventuality. I carry these in a bum bag around my waist with my mobile (fully charged and with credit).

I would go it alone if i had too, wouldnt wanna miss out

,i know how you feel though, the last couple of jumping things i have done i had to go on my own(hubby came and he tried bless him but he is not horsey at all,and i couldnt leave neddy with him he would have been squished, lol),my lad is a tad exciteable and tacking up when we get there is interesting, lol, but we manage and as long as i dont leave him he is reasonable

I am sure the people at the point were you pay will give you a hand to get back on

The more you get him out on his own the better

I'm doing pleasure rides on my own at the moment because my happy hacker friends are too scared about being over-taken and my competitive friends are busy competing. Its do-able, especially on an independent horse, but I find it harder work than with company. My horse latches on to any other horse that she sees and starts stressing and calling, she's much more settled with a friend.

Is your horse clingy with other horses? If he is you might find he's anxious to catch up to anybody and everybody else! If you can deal with this confidently and make him behave reasonably, then go anyway. If not, best wait to go with a mate.

On the last fun ride I went on I was with a friend who was on her Cob, even though I was with someone else Charlie was wanting to catch up with anyone he could see in the distance, I didn't really have trouble holding him but he did a lot of Jogging and going sideways. If he was silly with a friend I think he may be worse on his own?!

Arggg, why am I such a bl00dy wimp!?! I should just go rather then thinking about every problem I might come across!

Horse_Crazy, I have the same problem; Ben is fine on his own, but if someone overtakes us he wants to cling on to them for dear life! He jogs and does the sideways thing too!

But, after a while he settles down, and is back to his slow laid back self!

I usually go on my own; Doing our third one on Sunday, but a friend is coming too. ( most other friends are scared) He is much better with company, and doesn't bat an eyelid if someone canters past.

I would definately go, and ask for help if needed, their usually friendly people at these events. Enjoy!

Yes, do go, maybe phone the Organiser and see if anyone else would like someone to go round with!
Good luck

I do them on my own, my horse is fine. Usually I end up chatting to people as I go round as my horse is quite striking. If it's only a few miles away from you then you can always quit and go home if you're not enjoying it?

It's not the one at Bath is it? That has different routes, I'm going on it!
