I have a dressage lesson booked at 3pm today, but with the literally gale force winds we are experiencing
At the moment, I'm a little apprehensive! Our arena is surrounded by a tall wood on one side and the tree's really are going for it. I'm just not sure we'll get an awful lot out of him whilst it's like this (he's a 4yr old trak), or if I'll be able to hear her for that matter!
I'm not usually a fair weather rider and wind I don't mind but this! Shall I just nite the bullet or postpone? X x

I'd go for it, let your instructor know that you think you might struggle to get too much out of it so they can perhaps adjust what you would normally be working on and you can concentrate on just getting him listening? If you are competing then you would normally just go ahead (I assume) so it is as well to get him used to the idea and knowing that wind isn't too scary! I had a v windy lesson on tues (struggled to hear instructions!) but it was actually loads more productive than I thought it would be. I expect my mare to be level headed in as many situations as possible, so it is just another thing for her to be used to and fairly chilled out about.

One of our horses I wouldn't even bother to tack up in this weather, but a couple of our other horses are fine whatever the weather is doing. I'd agree with Glosgirl and say go for it. If things don't go well you can always call a halt to the lesson early.

I have a Trakehner too, if it was her I'd ride, as said previously, if you were competing you would just have to get on with it. It might not be the greatest fun for you, but will be a learning experience for him.

Thanks for the encouragement, I went for it! So glad I did because he went fantastically! Had a superb lesson, he was foot perfect. The wind had died down considerably which helped, but I can't stop beaming. x

glad he went well! I had a dressage lesson this morning on my 2 year olds, they were good too, and I came to the conclusion that it is good for their education as you never know what the weather will be doing at competitions. Had trouble hearing my instructor though :)

Yep! Rode him tonight in the pouring rain with high winds (couldnt see the other end of the school and its only 30x15!!) Decided to just go in the school (hardly ever do because its so small!) because going on the roads would have been a bit dangerous me thinks. But i love riding in the rain for some reason?! And he went amazingly well! :)

Yep :)
I hacked today, up to the eyeballs in Hi-Vis thinking "I can't wait till I can start hunting." In decent enough winds, rain and home time for the school we have to pass.
If a fair weather rider like me can hack in this weather, I'm pretty sure I could school too :D
