Would you have bought this horse? And how important are looks to you?

When I got mine 10 years ago, he didn't look like anything...

Had been a bit neglected and so on, but it's temperament that did it and boy!

Thanks for your kind comments everyone, they have overwhelmed me a bit!
I love him to pieces but Im pleased that other people can see what I saw. He really is the kindest horse Ive ever known.

Im pleased there are so many people around who do see past that first image.

I know advert photo's are important, they are our first visual impression of the horse usually, but its very reassuring for all the horses that are perhaps not looking so well at the mo, that people can see past it.

Yep those who know Beau know his temperment is second to none, and that he taught my nervous novice OH to ride from scratch, we are just lucky that he turned out to be pretty too!

Goodness he looks sooo different!! I have to say he doesn't look very impressive in the first few pics

having said that, some of the most genuine horses I've met have been a bit plain. Not least darling Alba who is about a million years old and not a very pretty girl, but is teaching the kiddies how to ride

Yes i probably would have if he had been what i was looking for at the time, looks are not the be all and end all. We brought a horse about 11 weeks ago that we shall say was less than in perfect condition he is improving every day with tlc. He looks lovely by the way

Yes I would have done

you have to look past the current state of the horse and see what they can turn into with some tlc, good feed and work

It's not easy doing so though!

I don't think the first photo shows him as "ugly" - you can see through the rough stuff and see he could be a nice all rounder when muscled up and gleaming. I think he has a kind eye and potential - which is obviously what you have managed to bring out - well done!

I believe that horses are such a personal thing - what suits one person, wouldn't another. I am a firm believer in when I see/sit on a horse it feels right - that may not always be what is best "on paper", but it hasn't failed me yet.

Too many people go for the superficial "gloss" on horses for sale in my opinion.

Wow you've done a great job. My boy looked sad and weedy when i got him in April but with a good groom and some feeding up he's starting to look good:

I don't think he was ugly, just fluffy & beardy! He looks like a nice horse and now looks like a nice handsome horse! He certainly is a mahoosive lad though!

I am glad I am reading this post and seeing how you can turn a horse around by looking through fluff and beard as I am horse shopping at the mo and it is so difficult!

How could anyone call Beau ugly?

I think he looked very handsome then, but has really bloomed with you.

I would choose a horse on temperment over anything, especially after buying Amber. Yes she appered sweet and certainly looked pretty, but she isnt quite what I was told really.

I brought Jehtro as he was quite cute, and several people think he is ugly, but he has a lovely temperment.

Thank you. Temperment did it for me too. He was such a soppy boy (although i knew that could change with condition and strength) but he just stood out for me. I saw some others at the same place and although they were in ready to sell condition as such i just loved Ru's face and asked to view him too.
