I was driving back from the feed merchants and I came across 2 minature shetlands on the road. I pulled over, saw a small paddock which was shut that had horse poo in it but no horses, so I flagged down the next driver along (which was a massive great big truck - scary) and managed to herd the ponies in there.

I left a note through the letter box of the cottage next to the paddock saying the ponies were out on the road - sorry if they dont belong in there, then called the police to report it incase they were reported missing/stolen. After that I left.

In hindsight the cottage looked quite unused, although there was furnature in there, and the droppings in the paddock looked oldish and too big to be produced from such little ponies. Also the paddock was small and didnt have very much grass in it so im worried they will be hungry.

Would any of you lot done anything extra/different?

I may have rung the RSPCA maybe - but as you've rung the police... I pretty much think you've done all you can

Nope I was in Malta years ago and we met a Black Horse Galloping down the road towards us. There was no one anywhere around so we calmed it down opened a gate and chucked it in.
We didnt even tell anyone as we were miles from anywhere.

Thank you! Only reason im stressing is that when I got home and told my mother (un-horsey) she looked at me as if I was mad and started scaring me with, what if the land owner/horse owner sues you and silly things like that!!!

I think you did exactly the right thing, especially informing the Police. Hopefully, whoever has lost them, will report them missing and they will soon be linked up.
Job well done I say

When I rang to tell the police they took my contact details.

It was just my mum being over cautious as per usual, and it just wound me up!

I think you did the only thing possible in the situation. No one could sue you surely....???

In fact someone told me recently that she had horses dumped on her land by pikeys and that infact she was then responsible for their welfare!!!!! and if she didnt provide food and water, she would be prosecuted for neglect

Unbelievable!!!!
