My horse is on loan, and he is going straight from the loan to a working livery - he will be tried for a week then they will say yay or nay.

Now I was just wondering, Should I see about getting a vet to come and give him a once over on the week before he is moved? He is going on a sat so unless its an emergency they said not keen to do it that day.

I was just thinking it would be good to make sure he is ok and so that I can say he was fit and healthy when starting the working livery etc?

Also, How much roughly is a vetting/check up?

In an ideal world i would say yes BUT anytype of vetting could negatge parts of your insurance if things are picked up - even though he is your own horse, unfortunaltley the insurance company would have every right to see said form and may put exclusions on your policy (or that of the working livery).

Last vetting i paid for was £480 but only £250 of that was for the vetting, the rest was for my vet to travel way down south.

A routine check up would propbaly be £35 call out and £40 quid "inspection" up in these parts.

Good luck

If its a working livery, its probably a good idea. Any chance of making them pay for it? If its not possible, get an expert (?) to write down the things a vet would check and get them to sign it.

Oh where B going?
Personally if didn't go down vet route would take photos and note down any marks/cuts that he has prior to starting working livery. You would have to check details of your contract as well for working livery esp in regard to vet fees should he become unsound and unuseable by school then you may be liable for all of livery and they may expect you to cover all vet fees regardless of who was using him at the time of injury.Just mention this cos when I put one of mine on WL it stipulated I was responsible for all vet fees even if injury happened in lesson.
So would say get a contract as will save any arguments or ill will and read carefully!

TM - He is going to the Cabin Equestrian. My friend has her horse there.

The insurance they have he is covered by theirs when in use in lessons or on hacks and mine the rest of the time. They do have contacts thankfully, as they made them when fed up with folk changing their minds about Working livery after the school had done the groundwork with the horses.

I have asked them for a copy of the contract to look over before he goes there so just waiting for that. Its not a hugely busy school - unlike the other 2 I know of

he wont be worked 3 hours a day

. But he will get the attention he loves and the exercise he needs!
