Would you/Have you borrowed money to buy a horse?

Thanks everyone. Some great stories and advice. I do really appreciate it.
Bless my parents would lend it to me tomorrow if they had it but all there money is tied up in houses at the moment so they have no real cash flow at present.
I think I will speak with my sister this week and see what she says. I have done my spreadsheets and it can be done, after going down the yard this afternoon it does make me just want to go for it. I do go in swings and roundabouts but most often I come back to the conclusion of going for it sooner rather than later.

i was really up and down about getting a new horse when i lost my old girl, i felt guilty because wanting another made me feel like i was trying to replace her when really i just wanted to fill that huge hole she had left in my life. As it was i was asked if i could take a mare on loan as her owner was having personal problems about 2 months after losing my girl. I agreed and she's still with me;) although i now own her:D

Sorry to hear about you losing your old girl, it is dreadful. So pleased you got yourself a nice new one, sounds like it worked out well. I feel if something is meant to be it will happen regards getting my next horse

I personally haven't and wouldn't borrow money to buy a horse. However, I'm very cautious and wouldn't borrow money to buy anything except a house - everything else I see as a luxury and I dislike being in any kind of debt so would rather save than borrow.

If you really want a horse now but can't afford what you want, could you save a small amount and get a youngster/project? That way you would still have a horse to play with over winter, but without such a big outlay.

I know what you mean, I do not like to borrow money really but sometimes I just think, go for it.

I have considered a youngster greatly as I could afford one now yes, however, in truth I do want something of my own to ride, keeping two at any point is not an option really. I do earn enough to technically run two once I am straight but it would be way too tight for my liking. I enjoy greatly the freedom I have with my budget now with the new job as I actually have spare money now which is novel :D

I have not ruled it out entirely but I would prefer something I can ride straight away

exactly;) i was available when the big girl needed a new home and everything just fell into place, i agreed to take her without even seeing her only a photo:eek: now i'm not recommending you go that route lol but fate certainly works in mysterious ways:D i've had the big girl for 5 years now:D

Thanks TB, there are some real bargains out there. I think that I can get what I want for under £1500 no problem, seen quite a few under £1k which is great too.

Except this mare who I want, but she is way over my budget, bootiful though :D
