Would you/have you ever..... if you loose a shoe

Carried on hunting when you've lost a shoe?

My horse lost one the other day, we'd been on wet ground so I didn't notice, but we got on a stoney bit and I jumped off strait away as he didn't feel right - bugger, lost a shoe!! :mad: I walked him home (Badger was NOT impressed!) as he'd only had them on a couple of days and was feeling it.

I have, however, carried on sometimes, if I've been on a horse with good feet and if we are in fields.

Yup depends on the horse, the ground, what plans you have for it, you have to work out whats best in that situation. One i had went hoping lame even on the grass, one i have atm wouldnt leave the field even if she was hopping lame and i wouldnt fancy my chances of holding on from the ground. One lost both front shoes, carried on for an hour longer and then went to PC dressage in the afternoon she was fine and did very good lengthening due to no shoes lol.
 
Depends on the horse and the going. I've lost a front and horse was not right on the road but luckily we were going home then anyway. And then same horse pulled one off on the road and I didn't notice nor did he feel it at all ( I was told later he pulled it on the road). Last Weds on really wet ground at some point same horse lost a back shoe but not sure when or where, I never noticed nor did my boss when he got on him till we got home.
These were all at different times not on the same day.
 
Hmmmm my horse has carried on happily all day with 3 shoes (in fact I once took him out with 3 shoes on but it was the last legal day so please don't tell anyone :blush:.) He's fine but there are others I'd take home straight away.
 
Tehe I did that once too, Lucy has good feet ;) Whenever anyone pointed out that I had lost a shoe I feigned surprise! Not sure I would do it again nor recommend it though, they must feel a bit lopsided...
 
My coloured never even notices, she has great feet and I never worry - we just carry on regardless :) there are others in our yard though that do make a fuss, mostly wussy geldings that stand there instantly with their foot up and a look of 'oh I couldn't possibly possibly go on a moment longer, can't you see, I've lost a shoe' on their faces :)
 
I managed to lose all 4 shoes one day hunting with the Cottesmore. He was due to be done the next day so we weren't too worried and farrier was out hunting with us and said to keep on the grass. Was a bit scary galloping round corners though - felt very slippy!!
 
my horse has terrible feet, and i lost 2 shoes out recently, but would never get off.. last time i did that he reared up and disapeared for 2 hours on his own. Hence, I carried on regardless.
