If so how much would you pay? ( I think per wheel barrow is easier)
Also what age gap of person would you hire? ( as in between the age of 18-60 ect)
:) :)

I have help with poo picking. £7.00 an hour. This is in Hampshire. Very reliable and experienced lady in her forties, so could spot anything wrong with horses when she comes. She probably picks one and a half wheelbarrow load for the £7.00. Somebody else charges for the number of minutes she actually spends working to do this but adds travelling costs which comes to about the same.

Some people at our yard pay a teenager to do a couple of barrows for a about a fiver. How does the lady above only do a barrow and a half in anhour? I do 4/5 in a hour with long trips to muck heap! I would pay per barrow rather than an hour!

up until 18 months ago I had four horses and I worked full-time. I had a poo-picker who came twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I poo picked at weekends. I knew how long it took me to clear the field so I paid her for four hours at £7.50 an hour.

I pay the teens £2.50 a barrow. My two tend to poo in three places in the field and it takes less than 15 mins to walk to the field, do a barrow and put in on the muck heap, so they are on a very good rate but anything less and they don't want to know. A barrow a day keeps my field clear so it is worth having it done rather than face 7 barrows at the weekend.

No I wouldn't

Its not a big deal to do it every day. The only time some 1 else does it is when they are covering me on the yard .

I know it does not take her an hour but she is utterly reliable, turns up in all weathers all year round, puts the muck in the boot of her car in bags and takes it away half a mile to the farm muck heap. Without her I could not keep my horses as I am physically unable to ride or do this kind of work. And she does not charge me for her travelling. Everybody else does around here. I am not sure I could get this kind of service from the local teenagers!

£7 an hour to pik-chit.... (as we call it)..... I need to change career.

having invested in an small industrial litter picker mounted to a quadbike we could pik-chit about 30 acres in a day..... into a trailer and straight to the heap. Like hoovering on a bigger scale..... simples.

I wouldnt pay someone just to poo pick by hand. I do mine and when it gets too much (ie. if I've been lazy and not done it for a while) then I get a local company out who bring their quad and a sucker upper thingy - takes them about 30 mins to do our 5 acres!

yes i would! my 6 acre field is on the side of a steep hill and it makes poo picking a back breaking nightmare. lots of heavy barrows! if they were a professional type with a poo picker on the back of a quad, i would defo hire them once a week.

otherwise, i doubt teens would be bothered with the hard grafting of pushing a heavy barrow of muck up a long steep incline.

there was a thread about this recently. when I worked as a freelance groom I charged £10/hour 5 years ago and got it for poo picking-in the middle of winter in a bog that is not too much money when self employed. I would happily pay a more than that myself as my time is worth more than that to me now-although I do it myself atm. I have paid a chap with a quad and roller type poo picker £30 to do 12 acres once a month (6 horses in 2 paddocks, 2 owners-would take him about an hour).
