Following on from my post earlier in the week, would you jump Blacky?
she likes to jump, and the jumps are only about a foot high.
I havent' jumped her on the actual jumps for about a month and a half, but she jumps over logs on the ground out hacking sometimes.
thanks

If they're only a foot high and she wants to do it I don't see any problem with jumping her, it will be good enjoyable exercise for her!

Oh right - I did see that one.

Yea I don't see why not - she looks like she has nice chunky legs to support her nice chunky body!

Personally, I would try and get some of that weight off her before jumping her.

Also, unless you have a surface, be very careful as the ground is generally like concrete at the mo, and I wouldn't jump an older horse on it.

Ummm, also, Blacky Baby, has your sig got bigger again...?

Could try clipping her out, then if the weather gets chilly she might lose some of that weight keeping warm.

Tricky situation getting weight off when pone is too old/fragile to do some heavy duty work.
Don't think the grazing muzzle will work as if she's headshy already, likely to make her worse.

Would try putting her in the emergency stable for part of the day with some well soaked hay to nibble on. If YO then gets an emergency, Blacky can be chucked back out in the field.

Keep my ponies on a fairly bare paddock at this time of the year. Surely amongst all those animals there's someone else that can share a bald bit with Blacky for, say, the daytime?

I don't think I would purposely make an old horse cold....

Much better to take control of her diet and get her off that nice grazing you showed a picture of.

thanks everyone.
I did jump her today

Also, she'll be getting clipped soon anyway, but not to make her cold

, when the weather heats up a bit more.

If she refused a few times, perhaps she is trying to tell you something....

With her being so over weight it must be quite uncomfortable for her jumping. Maybe she doesn't enjoy it as much as you thought.

Also, please be careful with the ground. When we've had hard ground like we have recently, and then it rains and you jump on it "on grass and it hadn't long rained " then it may be a little slippy.

She always gets silly with the proper jumps. she loves to jump logs up in the woods and she does like to jump, she's just rather be up in the woods so she tries her luck.
Yeah, we checked with YO if it was too wet but she said it would be ok, as it was just a shower and it was about 2 hours before we jumped.
