Would you let a professional compete on your horse

As title really,

Just pondering. I am a BHSAI and desperate to get competition season underway. Current horse having a few issues (backed over winter) and won't be ready for some time. Just wondering if anyone (not suggesting people on here, just in general!) would be interested in having a professional school and compete on their horse (dressage)

Wouldn't be able to contribute £££ but wouldn't ask for £££ for schooling horse either. Do you think there are people out there that would want that or would they want to do it themselves?

To be honest you won't get a pro to compete your horse for free!

Thanks for your replies.

I wouldn't be charging for the ride. :) I'm in MK Bucks. I don't currently have my own yard (something I am working on) so would just want to be able to school said horse 3-4 times a week at their current yard and compete when appropriate. As said wouldn't be able to contribute £££ to horses keep but wouldn't charge for schooling either ( I do usually charge my clients for schooling)

Thanks. This has given me some things to think about :)
I wish you were in Kent I am looking for a dressage rider for my mare. She is working at elementary affilliated. No payment either way, ride 3 -4 days per week. I do all the work and pay entry fees and all horses keep. Horse is washed and plaited and taken to shows all ready for you.

I am having trouble finding a good rider this year for her, my previous rider had been with me for 6 years and is now pregnant If you know anyone in my area send them to me please.

What an amazing opportunity! Alas i am not in your area :(

There must be someone on here that would be interested in this surely onemoretime!

I used to keep my horse at MKEC and if I were still there would probably jump at the chance. I have a newer 5yo WB now but having a second opinion with regards to his training and someone to help move him up the grades in dressage would be fantastic. I'm also about to finish uni and hopefully when I get a job, won't have so much time to spend on him. Alas, I am staying in Lincoln and not moving back to Beds. Hope you find what you're looking for!

I sincerely hope so, it is a lovely opportunity for the right person. They must have ridden to at least elementary affilliated. Lovely mare very kind does not spin or do nasty things. We have a 20 x 60 school all to ourselves. We are based about 4/5 miles from Brands Hatch if any knows anyone. I look after my riders very well its not just a case of riding and then go they get very nice presents as well.

I would if I could not cope with it myself.

I do know people who have done this but they have paid the person to school and compete.

I presume the reason you are offering your services for free is that you feel you do not have the ability or experience to charge people for schooling and competing their horse so you are looking for a more of a free share sort of deal?

No, that isnt 100% the case.

I am an AI, freelance, so earn my living teaching and schooling clients horses. Those who do this for a living will know you dont become rich doing this! Due to said finances getting onto the competition ladder can become difficult, with the fees, transport not to mention when you can only afford a certain type of horse! I have competed on clients horses, albeit at unaff level but at elementary, not competing at affiliated is more due to finances than regarding my ability.

I am absolutely desperate to start affiliated competition and finally in a situation where i can do it, i even have a nice horse! How ever, he isnt going to be ready for some time and i am very impatient! Hence the question.

Obviously i am not going to have won a national title if i am willing to ride and school someones horse for free, i wouldnt need to do this! How ever the free element of my question is more towards my impatience, i would be more than happy to receive a fee! :)

You do sound the most patient and sensible person. Some posters don't seem to have understood your post at all, others seem to be poo-pooing your experience! I'm sure you will find something that works out. Good luck!

Well I did offer mine to PaddyMonty to jump, but for some incomprehensible reason, he declined
1) I'm not a professional, don't get paid to ride horses.
2) I didn't decline as such but you're not exactely local to me :p

OP - I'm sure you will find something. What you want to do is pretty much what I do but with SJ / Eventing rather than pure dressage.

I have not read all posts so excuse me if am repeating anything, I think if you are a decent nice quiet rider there will be loads of people who would only be to happy for this. When I had my old horse and was preganant I paid for someone to ride and compete him although the guy had been teaching me for years and knew the horse and did school him once a week anyway.
I as much as I love competing dressage and cross country get serious nerves in the SJ ring and always cock it up :( If I had a horse that had potential I would be more than happy to let somebody decent to take it showjumping or eventing for me as I could stick to dressage :D
Am sure there is a something out there its just finding it

It sounds like a great idea and Im sure there are people out there that will get in touch :)

As for me, personally, no I wouldnt let a pro or anyone else compete on my horse. Ive got him to ride myself. No doubt at all if a pro competed him he'd go further faster but I dont really care about that, its all about the fun we have getting wherever it is we get. If I couldnt ride any more for some reason Id have to sell, Id never want to be an 'owner'. :)
