Would you let your horse jump this????

I keep meaning to get him insured for third party.
I would sort his vets fees out if i needed to, but would rather put some money away each month in case i needed to.
My last horse was insured for vets fees, but when i claimed for a tendon injury, there were so many exclusions for it, i ended up paying a fortune for things the insurance didn't cover, and then when the renewal came through it had gone up by a stupid amount and neither fore leg was insured. So i cancelled it.

Just peed off that ex would jump him over something like that knowing i wouldn't agree

Hi missugoopy, I don't have either of my horses insured because I think its a bit of a con, if I had a massive vet bill I would stick it on the plastic. Up until they stopped doing it I had 3rd party only insurance with Pet Plan, now I have gold BHS membership which covers the same stuff. I do worry about me damaging an innocent person or their property and being sued! As for whether or not that is a suitable jump that's upto the individual but I would be fuming if someone did something on one of my horses that I didn't approve of.

Not now I wouldn't, but I might have when I was a teen.

Re. your insurance, you really should get 3rd party, esp. if you hack out, go to shows, go hunting or are at livery - just incase your horse causes damage etc.... That's all my oldie is insured for and for minimal value too. I can't remember the cost

but's it's minimal

join the bhs then you will be covered third party liability .

You are, but is you're horse covered if he/she causes injury to another livery's horse in the field?

I'd definitely have jumped that as a teenager! Nowadays I wouldn't jump it unless I was dared to do it and then it would have to be from the smoother side but I know our bigger cob would just pop over it sensibly should we have to jump it. I wouldn't try it on most horses though - I certainly wouldn't consider jumping it on a horse that wasn't mine.

not out of choice but if I had to I would on my oldie who is careful in an emergency, but then again you could do as much damage jumping a proper showjump! Chances are a horse would clear it as it looks solid....wouldnt try it on a baby tho!

to be honest, i probably would. BUT then i jump my horse over everything i can, dependant on the ground and how much room there is behind it - we go to a local forest park and i have jumped barrier gates, large tree stumps, ditches (if there is enough room to turn - a 16.2 is a lot harder to turn than a 14.2) fallen logs, doubles of fallen logs ( am quite spatially aware so can estimate a stride quite well and the pony was an excellent jumper) jumped into and out of a river on to deep going and up and down banks - but i ONLY jump it if the ground is good and there is nothing sharp coming out of it - and i always were boots to minimise the total risk - but then i jump alot of odd things out hunting with no boots and at a lot faster pace:p

No, but then your are not with any 3rd party cover-evenon your normal horpse insuracne - horses in fields kick, bite , act stupidly etc.
When my horse was kicked, my own insurnace co paid the bill and did not try to claim back from the horse who kicked us,e ven thouhg it was being handled at the tiem in a show ring-
no negligences as it was not know to be dangerous, and horse have accidents when they kick at each other,

Despite mine having a jump like a stag with solid objects (showjumps she just walks through, grrrr!) I wouldn't risk her legs over something like that.

Even the smooth side because if she tripped or something spooked her............ You never know do you?

That looks fine I would jump it. I jumped metal sheep hurdles the other day as too lazy to get off and open them. They were on a track and horse just popped them out of trot. Always jumping metal sheep feeders as well. My horse would have to make a totally crap job of jumping those to get injured.

QR -

Yes I've jumped crash barriers like this before. And 5-bar gates. And sheep feeders. And sheep hurdles. There's lots of things like these in some of the courses I've ridden, so I wouldn't have a problem jumping this little barrier.

No! Whats that all about, "would of done out hunting"? Actually, my horse is too good to go out hunting, don't do cantering on roads and all that.

your horse is too good?? are you a bad rider then??? only seen hunt staff cantering on the road after hounds, not necessary for the field to do so.
dunno where all you lot seem to go hunting but i wouldn't jump that through choice. my OH has been in hunt service for over 15 years and only jumped wire out of necessity; in doing his job with hounds.
