Currently been at new yard for two weeks and my new YO is fantastic!! So accommodating and helpful. Old lady has cushings and quite badly laminitic so can't have much grass..so she has few hours out on poor grazing but the wonderful YO has started to make her a woodchip paddock.
Here is his progress(only three days this has taken)

Once pony and other horses have eaten down the weeds then woodchip first layer can go on :) then ill put up salt licks and scratching post.

Pen next door can also have horses in so can keep each other company and there is horses in the field next door.

Just a little Saturday happy post...one less old lady worry :)
 
What a lovely YO. I've had to create my own fatty pen with copious amounts of electric tape and posts! Thankfully a man who lives in the annexe on the farm is a tree surgeon, so I have plenty of access to wood chip.

I thought originally it was gonna be electric fencing but then he pulled out the wood!
What type of woodchip do you have and do you leave your fatties on it all day like a field?
It's just so good to have one in case she can't in the future tolerate grass due to her cushings.
 
Poor old lady being cast to fatty pen..she's never had weight related lammy...just sounds better than cushings pen haha
 
I'm not sure what wood chip it is tbh. He makes sure they are no green bits in it that they would eat. It's lovely and soft! The amount of electric tape and posts I've bought, wood fencing would probably have been cheaper :)

I have a wood chip fatty pen for the injured one so he doesn't get fat and I made a fatty track for my other horse also with a wood chip area. I bet your girl much prefers the fatty pen than being stuck in a stable all day :)
 
Forgot to the injured one is on it 24/7 with hay and every 2 days I increase it a few feet so he gets fresh grass. Our grass is so lush and full of clover, I'm worried that after 4 weeks of box rest he will get laminitis if I give him too much at one.
 
We've got some already for the base luckily and it's delieved by the same person who brings our hay/haylage.
Hopefully she will like it, I just worry about leaving her anywhere after so long being ill :/
Fatty pens are awesome haha! Your track sounds a good idea!
 
I bet she will love it in there. The track is for the one with DJD in his hocks, keeps him moving whilst looking for the grass to munch lol :) God I sound like I have a right bunch of crippled horses :)
