As above, would you move to a yard that has had an outbreak of strangles earlier in the year? YO says it has cleared up.

As long as the horses have swabbed clear then yes, although I would be asking and getting confirmation from the local vets (who cover the yard) before I made my decision.

Voted yes, but only under certain conditions and only after a certain safe time period had elapsed after the last outbreak had cleared up. I also ditto what Littlepowderkeg says.

A horse at our yard had strangles. Doesnt make the yard dirty or unknowledgeable. In fact its made it cleaner and even more knowledgeable on how to deal with this infection and recognise it.

"Yards" don't get strangles - horses do.

As long as the yard management had a well implemented policy on dealing with any strangles outbreak that a client's horse may bring into their environment, Yes, I would consider it.

If the yard management didn't have such a policy, then it is unlikely to be the sort of yard to which I would entrust my horse anyway.

Yes as long as it's clear from the vets.

And they have a policy in place for I'll horses, which I check anyway before moving my horse to any yard anyways.

Yes.....but only if the risk of strangles wasnt something that was greater for that yard than others available, for example I wouldnt go to a dealing or competition yard, or one that didnt at least try to isolate new horses for example.

I would not rule a yard out just because they had a case of strangles earlier in the year. I would be more concerned with the way they dealt with it than the fact that they had it in the first place.

This.

The yard I was on had an outbreak about 16 years ago and has had none since.
As long as the horses have swabbed clear and the yard dealt with it efficiently and also had a quarantine period, then I would be happy to move there.
