Would you move yards for an Indoor arena?

Would a good Indoor arena make you consider moving yards? How much of an attraction are they? Some people say that they are a must and others are more than happy with floodlights.

Thoughts please, thank you.

Yes without a shadow of a doubt, I used to be at a yard with an indoor school but left as the livery prices became ridicules

YES!

I'd love access to an indoor arena.

I learned to ride in an indoor arena. I think it turned me into a "fair weather" rider. I hate the rain, the wind and the snow.

Yes I did at start of Jan this year actually. The yard i'm at is rather expensive for DIY but it has a 25x60 indoor, 20x40 indoor and 2 outdoors. An indoor arena is very much needed in aberdeenshire I think. Tonight I was able to ride even though it was dark, windy and rainy outside :)

yes I would, if i wanted one (its a nice thing to have but I dont need one and would have to be mad to leave my own land to go on livery ;))

If it wasnt *too* much more expensive and I could still afford it
If it was still a convenient distance from home
If the rest of the facilites suited.

So yes and no, really, yes I would like one, but it would still have to be as part of an overall 'package' , i wouldnt go somewhere not right, just because they had one .

ets, I used to be at a comp venue with 2 indoor schools, and we the liveries could never get in them anyway, they were always hired out to all and sundry and the dog club, so Id only move somewhere that I could actually get in to use the facilities I was paying for in future.

That's a difficult one. It took 4 moves in a year to find a yard where both me and my girly are happy however the hedge down one side of the school causes us all sorts of problems when it's windy as she thinks it is trying to eat her so I think riding in an indoor would be a relief! Would depend on the other people there though and if there was all year turnout.

I moved to a yard with an indoor as had a horse who used to bronc in the rain :(.

Have a different horse now but remained at the yard. The indoor is a God send with the weather we have in the NW.

Yes but only if:
*it wasn't much more than i'm paying now
*i could actualy use the arena not have it hired out etc.
*it had turn-out
*it had enough spaces for my friend to move with me and if she wanted to of course :)

Yes, definitely, but only if the turnout and pasture was also good.

An decent sized, well lit, well ventilated indoor with a good surface would be a very enticing. Unfortunately our last couple of yards had very poor indoor arenas which, along with individual grazing was a real downer.

Nope im happy with a decent outdoor :) I moved from a yard with an indoor and floodlite outdoor to a yard with just outdoors and no lights. Reason for moving was the surfaces were as hard as a rock so i traded for an awesome surface!!

it would depend on whether all the other reqs were met as well like turnout, hacking, good beds, hay, feed etc. and also on whether the surface of the indoor was good, not deep, watered regularly, leveled reg and what the lighting was like (and cost)

No I don't think I would. I am generally a happy hacker so good grazing and hacking is more important to me. If a yard had an indoor school it would be a plus point but I wouldn't move just because of it.

I just waited for the farmer to convert one of the cow sheds at my yard into a school - its small but workable can't say that I would have moved there for it though and no, wouldn't move to a yard for an indoor arena grazing and hacking are far more important to me.

I would so love to be in a yard with an indoor - I have four outdoor arenas close by that I can use/hire.

The local RDA have just built an indoor and I'm going to visit and either offer to help or ask if I can hire it a couple of times a week.

If it was what I needed then yes of course.

:) It makes a great deal of sense to me, completely logical, if it is the difference between riding and not rding, especially if the ground is frozen/under snow there's a blizzard blowing and it's minus silly degrees outside.

I have several Boarders that move yards in the winter so that they can ride in the indoor - they come back here in the summer. I also have others that come here for winter lay up after the Finals and spend the rodeo season at a Trainers barn with sand arenas and cattle.

Ive been on a yard with an indoor and left as i got very restricted turnout :( so i'd weigh it up against many other things and not look at it in isolation.
Plus it was rented out every night and yard went like a fair
I now have a sole let with my own well surfaced floodlit arena, it'd be like prising a winkle out of a shell to get me out of here now :D:D I far prefer the quietness and privacy, plus my horses are out or in at my discretion.

I am lucky in the fact that we have one at my yard. :D I think once you have had one, you don't want to go back to not having one again! I was definitely grateful for ours last winter when we had weeks of snow!

Although it would be a lovely extra it would not persuade me to move yards. Turn out, quality of grazing, hacking, cleanliness and the general day to day care of my horse is more important, we have a fab floodlight outdoor school and great yard owners.:D

That, even though it's awful and the proximity to work is making me stay at my current yard (which is dilapidated and appallingly run-not run by totally absent YO)

I used to only have an outdoor (it was beautifully maintained) and I rode regardless of weather.

Looking at the weather this year, almost no rain, haven't worn a coat since March, I'd be tempted to move if a decent yard became available, regardless of indoor. :(

Nope because I prefer to ride in an outdoor an indoor is boring.
I have ridden regularly in both but prefer the outdoor .
I ride at least 5 times a week and still rarely get wet and as I event as you have to compete in all weathers then it is better to school in all weathers as well!

I'd love an indoor arena, total bliss not to be riding in the rain and wind. I would move if the price was right and I didn't have too far to travel.

I've got an indoor school at my current yard and it was a god send last winter with all the snow and frozen ground. Although an indoor school is nice to have, if the yard didn't offer all year turn out (in at night in winter) it would be a no go for me as that's more important.

Maybe, but I've moved mine 3 times in a year to find this yard where we are happy and the price/ turnout is great.

If the price was right and all year good turnout then possibly but then again I prefer hacking to schooling anyway.

I'd love one but I wouldn't move for it.
Turn out, care, stable size and Hovis' needs come first. That said I wouldn't go anywhere that didn't have an arena at all.
Distance, cost and reputation of the yard would also be factors.
