just got back from viewing a pony for my nervous daughter.hes 14.2hh ,14 years old and coloured.hasnt been ridden for about 8 months as current owner tends to play with him rather than ride him.he didnt put a hoof wrong,she rode him in the arena and popped a little jump then hacked him down a lane on his own and again he didnt bat an eyelid.hes done a bit of everything in the past and jumped round 3ft courses (not that he would have to jump 3ft courses with T! ) the instructor rode him first and he accepted the bit straight away and went round in a nice outline and is well schooled. when asked to walk/trot/canter etc he basically said ok then. i think he is one of these golddust ponies and instructor says he is perfect for her. id be happy to pay the amount as he is safe as houses.(instructor has known him for 2 plus years and suggested we look at him) i know 14 isnt old in the grand scheme of things but would you pay this amount for a 14 year old ?
 
If he's an absolute saint, which it sounds like he is, then yes I would pay it. Generally with age comes experience and it sounds like this pony has really been there and done it. Being 14yo wouldn't put me off at all, especially if he's just what you need. You should have years ahead of you with him.

Is tack included? If not, I'd try to barter it down a bit, but if you think he's 'the one' then why not?

What is your daughter wanting to do on him?
 
chestnut cob..thats the word i was looking for! he is a saint and T said she felt like she had been riding him for years so i guess he is the one, and as shawny says you cant put a price on safety, i was just curious to see who else would pay due to age ,which i hasten to add doesnt bother me , not when i know the age of a lot of our pc ponies that are still haring around xc courses having a ball! tack isnt included but i will try current ponies tack on him but my saddler will fit him one and i can pay for it over a few weeks.
smash, my daughter wants to do pony club, and local shows etc. she currently jumps up to about 2 foot.
 
No way. I've just bought the sweetest, prettiest 12.2 6 yr old show pony mare. Bombproof in traffic, brilliant with children, good to box etc, moves like a dream for the princley sum of £400. Let my 2 yr old toddler lose on her and she guardrd him with her life. No need to pay silly money to get a good pony.
 
He sounds perfect. The people having my boy are having him for, all being well, 4 years. He will be 15 when I get him back and I don't anticipate having trouble rehoming him again if he's proven he can safely take a child to PC and hunt....
 
having looked at the prices of 14.2hh recently (very popular size pony ) the asking price isnt really silly money, ok hes a little older than some , but he will more than pay for himself in my daughters confidence as she is very nervous and her current pony hasnt been very helpful in that department! my 4 yr old son was running around the arena after him and he couldnt of cared less. i kept telling my boy to come away but the owner was saying oh hes fine, pony doesnt care and he didnt. not only that i have an 8 yr that can learn to ride on him. his owner said i could stick my 4 yr old on him and send him off down the lane and you know what? i reckon i could have to...
 
I dont know if Id pay this. I think its pricey considering the pony hasnt done much for quite a while. I mean, what has the owner actually put into this pony to make it worth that because it sounds like nothing! The pony does sound very genuine and nice though - if it suits what you want perfectly then it is worth whatever you can afford!

where on earth did you find that? would you sell her to me??
 
Yes, I'd go for it. If it's a nice pony (i.e conformationally sound etc) as well, I think it sounds right and perfect!
 
Yes if he is everything you want.
If he lasts her four years he will still be saleable at 18 though not for a lot of money, but think of the confidence and peace of mind for you.
There is a horse near here still winning BE classes aged 19, he has brought several riders through the grades and is still useful.
Horses like that are priceless I reckon.
 
Yes, I think he's worth it and you may be searching for months to find one as good and only save a few hundred pounds. I agree that you should try and get the tack included or some money off . I also think I would want a short trial if safety is your priority. Good luck

A horse is only worth what you are willing to pay for it at the end of the day. If he is that good and your daughter is happy then he's worth it. I would haggle a little, but not to the point of losing him. The age wouldn't bother me at all, although for that money I would probably have him vetted, at least for the basics.

ive not read the whole thread just this page of posts and i bought a 14.3hh coloured recently for alot of money having looked at loads cheaper and he is wonderful, safe, placid but still responsive, patient and learning from me all the time and so willing to please. I was worried i had spent so much but he is adored by everyone, we have just come back from a pub ride, left at 1 back at 530 and he was wonderful and so well behaved in the pub while we ate. i have had a 2yr old, 12 yr old and 53yr old ride him, and he still gallops when I want him to, go for it, if you are happy and able to pay the money, pay it. someone else will.
