Would You Pay this Bill?

A friend of mine has just been handed a bill by his trainer for £385.00 for a replacement pair of glasses frames

What sort of idjit wears such expensive glasses when handling a horse?!

He is in a bit of a difficult position obviously but what would your reaction be to receiving a bill like this?

Laugh in the person's face and say "yeah, right"

Agree with all these posters- it's an occupational hazard! What a git!

If he could afford to spend nearly £400 on a pair of glasses, he can probably afford to replace them. Personally, I order mine online.. 2 pairs for £50.. happy me.

What if, say, a horse staying at this guy's yard got colic and the owner was landed with a hefty vet's bill? Would they expect him to pay? I doubt it!

He's a chancer, tell him to stick it! :) And tell your friend to grow a pair :p

Well I do!, the pure titanium ones are not cheap but are very light and generally strong and flexible, however it's not that expensive to get them insured and in this scenario it's ridiculous to expect the client to pay!

Unbelievable. Perhaps your friend should try requesting 400GBP from the trainer in compensation for the fact that the trainer obviously didn't have the horse-sense to see the animal was getting stressed by the new situation with the block and then made it even worse by creating a scene (guessing this from actual running backward and blood everywhere). Horse will probably require extra training to go near a black again!

Idiot trainer.

And totally out of order on the bill.

No way on earth.

Show your friend this thread!

Absolutely outrageous.
Personally, I'd remove my horse, a trainer with so little integrity would not be working with my horse.
Wonder if this trainer with expensive taste wears £500 riding boots ? For goodness sake, don't let the horse pee on them.

No Way! Like all the other posters i would seriously consider this persons capabilities as a trainer if he was getting on my horse with a bad back and clearly not capable of dealing with any tricky situation that arises.

Also, i wouldnt want to give work to someone who is quite clearly got the moral integrity of a gnat - at best hes chancing his arm trying to get 400 cash, at worst attempting to defraud a customer and an insurance company (by asking for cash only- is highly suspicious and makes me think hes claiming elsewhere for them too).

Tell your friend to look for another trainer, or if he wants to stay- the idea of giving the bill back with a strongly worded letter is a good one.

I also wonder if his trainer, knows that your friend hates confrontation and is likely to just pay up, and thats why hes done it.....gah some people!

I have to wear glasses everyday and mine would cost about £500 to replace. My frames are the least expensive part!

However I have an old spare pair which I wear when I am around my horses. My point being that most peoples personal items, glasses included are covered by your household insurance policy or a seperate one for glasses. No way should your friend pay for the repair of the trainers glasses. It sounds like he's trying to pull a fast one and if they are that precious to him, he should have made sure they were insured in the first place!

Mine are about £500 a pair and I do wear them around horses. If I got cheaper ones they would be like jam jars. However NO I wouldn't pay and would be changing trainer too.

i am rather shocked that anyone would demand someone to pay for a broken pair of glasses. If you took them of and stamped on them thats another story. this is just pure madness!!! i wonder who would fit the bill if they fell over in a busy public place.. prehaps the council?

He should offer to pay the excess once he has seen the bill and no more. I also think you should be telling us who this trainer is so that we know who to avoid!!! Or at least what area they are based in.

He is based in Holland Perissa so I think most people on here are safe:-)

Im with the two who said to get your friend to say he has passed the invoice on to his insurance company - as (while he is sympathetic to the problem) he cant possibly afford that much as a bill. The insurance company will look into it as much as they can (when they have finished laughing at the cheek!) - and it will also go through to get investigated with his own insurance company as well (either ask for the details or Im sure they will be able to do it through just his name and address -they have ways and means!!!) - so if he is trying to pull a fast one, I reckon your mate will soon be told not to worry about things.... ;)

The glasses should be covered on bog-standard house contents insurance as far as I know - and yes - its an occupational hazard !! I had to swap to contact lenses when I started working with horses, just cos one fall in my glasses was plenty thankyou very much !!!

good luck with getting your mate to not be soft - bless him !!!

No i wouldnt want to pay.
I think he is trying it on.

But i too do not like confrontation.
If i did pay i would pay by cheque or card and want a reciept, or get the invoice from the company that are going to make his glasses and pay it directly to them.
