At last yard you could pay 50 and pretty much go anywhere in a ten mile radius.
Depends whether it's worth it to you. I'd certainly cough up if I'd use it.
I'm waiting on the estate to e-mail a map of the routes so I can work out if it is worth it or not. I rent a yard off an estate tenant, so it would be right on my door step. BUT when I was speaking to the estate manager he mentioned that a lot of the tracks will be unuseable as the pheasant pens cross the tracks.
I'm going to see if I can speak to the gamekeeper (he was the one who mentioned it was possible to ride on the tracks) and see what he says!
Forgot to add that the estate is 1000 acres + so I hope the tracks will be good!
I would pay that and probably more for some decent bridleways with good canter/gallop tracks, ours are ok but such bits are limited due to annoying gates everywhere. If there was a way of cutting out the 20-30 mins along the main road to the normal bridleway I would probably pay for that in itself!
Gladly, but nobody around here offers it. We've spoken to lots of local landowners, offered to sign contracts agreeing to stick to certain tracks, only ride in groups smaller than 3 etc but none of them will have it.
The beach and sand-dunes 1/2 an hour trailer ride away offer it for about £40 but if you go 45 minutes away there's another beach and sand dunes system that you can ride on for nothing so we do that instead. It's not quite as good, but better than our roads and very soggy deep mud tracks.
Divide the cost by the number times you're likely to ride there - would you pay that for a one off ride of the distance on offer? If they answer's yes, go for it! I'm very jealous.
Where my friend is at livery its £8 pay as you go or £20 per month for me to ride out with her.
Its 300 acres off road hacking- lots of good hills for canter work and then she lets me go in the school too so if I want to do a bit of jumping. Or even stick the pony in a stable whilst we go for lunch but I think thats just friends perks!
Yes, we pay £40 a year for our Forestry Commision pass which covers 12 different woodlands and also gives us a free discovery pass for our local woods. We are within Sherwood Forest and feasibly "get away" without one, but at that price it is well worth it and supports our woodland. We are so lucky to have such good riding that I do feel for you guys who are fighting to stay safe when you ride out.
Absolutely - there is no substitute for safe off road hacking, especially in this day and age.
I am very lucky to have access to 600 acres of common land to ride on, straight off the yard, and having moved up here from Surrey, never take this open space for granted!
Bear in mind the shooting season is quite short - beginning of Oct until the end of Jan, so think £75 is a reasonable amount.
I'd happily pay to ride off road! round my yard a lot of it is roadwork and it's a busy main road (have had allsorts of crashes), and I'm reluctant to ride my boy on the road. So yes I prefer off road, he does too.
I'm lucky that my livery yard is seconds from 400+ acres of free woodland hacking.
Theres been rumours of selling the woods off for years - if it does happen and a fee is imposed - i'd happily pay it as long as the tracks are maintained and pony eating prams kept off the horse trails ;-).
