Hi,, not sure what is the best option. Have got a dressage test on monday morning which is an early start.
My boy normally is stabled overnight but I am going to have to leave him out sunday night as I cannot ride him straight from the stable.
Should I plait the night before or would it be a waste of time? I could just seperate into sections the night before, then plait the next morning.
How long does plaiting take?
Apologies for all these questions but this is all new to me and I'm so nervous, not sure my fingers will even work in the morning.

I wouldn't but I like to do everything on the day and I am a bit of a perfectionist where plaiting is concerned and wouldn't want them ruffled or rubbed out. It takes me around 30 - 45 miinutes to plait so leave plenty of time, if you have never done it before, or are not used to doing it quickly, then leave probably towards a couple of hours.

No, but only because Kali is a monkey about clean/tidy and would probably rub them all out on his door frame so it'd be pointless.

I usually plait the night before unless I have a really late start. Don't roll them up though, just do the plaits themselves. Occasionally I may need to redo one or two of them but my horse doesn't (touch wood!) tend to rub them out.

I often plait the night before for the extra 30 mins in bed!! :D
I plait, spray with hairspray (or if you're feeling flush this is awesome stuff - Lynne Russell quick plait spray
then put a hood on and voila! beautiful plaits! I spray and hood if I plait the same day also because the spray and hood flatten the flyaways and make them look really tidy. :)

This - leaving it till the morning is too much pressure and by the time I've plaited, my fingers are numb and I can't drive!

I always plait the night before for BE with Lynne Russell quick plait spray and thread. That can take up to an hour. I've never had one come out of look ruffled in the morning. If it is something low key like unaffiliated dressage later in the day I plait with bands which I can do in about 25-30 mins

This, it's a lot easier when you have between 4 and 8 yearlings to get ready to do it when calm and unrushed the night before.

Plait as usual the night before then place a small square of cling film over each plait and secure with elastic plaiting band at base (wound a couple of times to secure) and hood up. On arrival at show cling film and elastic will pull off.

Yep, with bands and no sprays or gels :D Whack the lycra hood on and chuck him out overnight. All in the next day, and all nice and on the same level because they've been squished into position. If it's a bit posher, I'll sew them in but always do them the night before. Saves stressing!

If I have an early start then I plait the night before but don't roll up. I can fully band plait a mane in 15mins for the racehorses but stitching takes me forever and a day!

I always plait the night before & roll them too. A blob of hair gel on each one & a fly rug with a neck cover usually keeps them looking sound. Occasionally I might have to re-roll the odd one xx
