Hi! In my opinion it's great you have this youngster handy and that he might be suitable! When you posted some time ago I thought there was no way he could have a compnay at all. Although in an ideal life I would say the stud environment was best, if it isn't possible then you just need to work with what you have. Weaning him at home could have a big advantage which is avoiding an abrubt separation and keeping Troy in touch with Hannah (which some believe is good). I saw it being done in riding schools with no proper breeding facilities and it wasn't such a big deal. In one case the mare was stabled next to her filly and the weaning went beautifully, they didn't cry for each other at all, didn't pace the stables and seemed very relax about it all.
Ups, got carried away
In short, I would think if the gelding is quiet but playful it should work. Could you walk the gelding to the stable door while Hannah is out being groomed (or worked) so Troy can say hello to a new friend? Blow into his nostrils etc?
All the best, I reckon it's great news you have a possible companion!
