Hi all,

while out hacking today a young boy in a noisy boy racer car came flying along the road behind me. I could hear him b4 i saw him and thankfully i was turning left down a farm track just before he approached. As he came up behind I turned round to check that he'd seen me (couldnt have missed me. Good visability and high viz being worn) but he started revving his engine and sped up towards me. I could see him and his wee pals laughing in the car. Hilarious, would have been even funnier if he had my horse had jumped out infront of him wouldnt it? :o:(

anyway, I have to say this is the 1st time ive experienced this type of thing. Poeple are generally show courtesy to one and other around here. I know the make and model of the car and I have a rough idea of the last digits of the reg plate. Do you think I shoud report this?

you just wish these little c***ts would come a cropper without involving others dont you?

Yes you hould report it. Not because they can do anything about it today, but because if they hit and kill someone, pedestrian or rider, tomorrow then it will be MUCH easier to get a guilty verdict on "death by dangerous driving" if there is already a report of this incident on file. Otherwise it could just become one more case where they get a slap on the wrist for "careless driving" even though we all know they were dangerous.

Would definitely report to the Police, I assume you have the registration number? If you have let the Police know and if there are any other reports, the driver COULd be reported for anti social driving

Yea report it everytime, I'm unlucky enough to live somewhere where things like that happen a lot. They should be visited & given a warning & hopefully won't be so stupid again.

Report it. I have no doubt he will end upside down in a ditch with such idiotic driving eventually.

Thanks all. Think I will phone the police tommorow.... blazingsaddles- i hate to say it but I hope they do, total idiots. I couldnt care less what they do with their loves but why should innocent bystanders have to be put at risk grrrrrr.....

YES!!
god these little pr*cks give us 'car enthusiasts' a bloody bad name!

Report him. something can be done about it iirc.

my fiends are all educated about slowing down for horses. I just told them 'what if it was me riding and someone else did it to me and I got hurt'

Have never come accross a 'boy racer' in edinburgh who has done this. probably because im part of both the horse and car communities!

We must be existing in different universes, or at least different countries. With very few specific exceptions, when evidence is presented to a court as part of a prosecution case, it is absolutely not permitted to introduce information of previous similar incidents - the case is judged on the facts of that matter alone. Previous convictions may be considered at the sentencing stage in the event of a guilty finding.

Having said that, yes, report it. Anti social behaviour in a car can be dealt with and if repeated can result in the vehicle being seized.

Did you get his plate? Defo report him. A friend had this with a moped, deliberately up her arse, revving away and laughing, last month and her horse bolted, then threw her off over a wall, kid made off, rider looked dead.

Please report it for your sake and the sake of all the other local riders. he could be done for driving without due care and attention, according to my OH (cop).

Go to the police station (don't phone) and report it to them. Ask for an incident number so that it is logged in to the system. If the vehicle can be identified by the registration number you provide it's record will be tagged which will ensure that the police are aware of this incident in the future.
Please also report this incident on the www.horseaccidents.org.uk web site.

Yes, I would.

A very similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was on a stretch of road with no verge, just a hedge, so I couldn't get out of the way, and I saw the car coming along the lane towards me far too fast and I put my hand up to signal to them to please slow down - it had the opposite effect, they sped up and held their hand on the horn as they came past me at about 90mph. I shut my eyes and thought this is it. I was on my ex-racer who I was having problems with, but bless him he just planted himself and didn't move a muscle.

The Police were really good and ran searches on the type of car I'd described (as I didn't manage to see the reg), and they sent a special out to have a drive around the village to see if they could identify the car in the local area.

I drive a 600 bhp scooby but that doesnt matter when im on my horse unfortunatly. When riders hear m approach in the noisy car i can tell what they are thinking but i just want to shout "its ok i have horses too" lol

^^^ This.

Maybe there have been other compaints about this driver? Your report could be the final straw that gets the Police going. It won't only be you they've been acting up with. If we all dawdle and dither and don't report such incidents, how can we expect to be safe from these idiots behind the wheel.
