Ive posted before about my 15yr old WB, hes an ex dressage horse who then did a lot of hunting etc before coming to me consequently has a lot of battle scars. Hes been diagnosed with hock arthritis and had successful injections to where hes sound. He never seems to enjoy work, he immediately sulks as soon as hes tacked up, will drag his feet to the mounting block and naps and digs his heels in with any type of schooling. I dont have a menage Im told he doesnt work in a field which from experience it seems the case lol and havent been able to try him in a menage
Ive just put a deposit on a new foal and its felt like the pressures off now, I feel so much more like Im enjoying the hobby again even though shes not home yet, as I think I was putting an awful lot on him to be something he doesnt seem to want to be
Ive had an offer from a friend to take him in for a couple of weeks schooling, but he doesnt travel at all well and he gets stressed being elsewhere until hes home so unsure whether to try that route, and also wouldnt he just go back to how he was when hes home, but they have a menage.
Or just to let him enjoy relaxing and not doing much at all, vet did say he needs to be worked to keep him free after his injections, but I feel so unlike doing it as its just not enjoyable ,but hes a lovely character on the ground and wonderful to have around.
hope that makes sense opinions welcome
