I bought this Cob two weeks ago as a two year old,but since i have had him quite a few People have commented that he looks younger than this, could i have some opinions please?thank you.

Looks like a scraggly 2year old to me- has plenty of tail growth. When's his passported date of birth? He should be microchipped so it should be easily verified

Certainly doesn't look like a yearling to me.

A check of his teeth should set your mind to rest.

If I could work out how to upload pics I could show you what a good worming, fibre and balancer, and some Dr Greens will do to your youngster. We had ours march and he looked very similar (rescue case so age not proven) checked by vet, chipped and passported as a three yr old.
Few months on and he has certainly grown into himself, I agree that he looks like a two year old who hasnt had the best start, and he's very much like ours!:)

Thank you Showaddy1.
Does anyone have any idea of what height he is likely to finish at?:)

You need to look in his mouth - if he is two he will have a full set of milk teeth - and in around six months the central Inscisor's will be replaced by permanent teeth - the top ones usually change first, then the bottom ones

He looks very rough, a really good worm dose and plenty of good grass should dee him look better in a couple of minths.

Make sure the wormer does all the worms - use an Ivermectin and praziquontal based wormer - personally I'd bomb drench him - worm weekly with the same wormer for three weeks

I think he went round a few markets before he ended up where i had him from,so i have being told,he was supposed to have being wormed prior to me having him, what wormer would you reccomend?

He is a lucky boy to have found you. I would test him and then take advice on what is needed for him. I used Strongid P for my underdone baby when he arrived. This was based on the fact we had no idea if he had ever been wormed. Here is a picture of the changes that took place in 6 months. He is 11 months in the first picture.

Don't be tempted to force the growth, it will come. You need a balanced diet based on fibre for him. There are many feeds available, I used Dodson and Horrell Suregrow fed alongside adlib haylage. This suited my youngster who is a cob x shire who is growing very rapidly.

Good luck with him, what is his name.

That is Ted, the feral carthorse. He has his own thread called 'My next equine project', it started with me asking, like you have done, for help and advice from the experienced people on the forum. If you have time to read it, there are lots of hints and tips about handling difficult youngstock, it is also humorous.

Good luck with Black Jack, he will make you smile and cry !
