Have posted before about my neighbours leaving their cocker pup all day as they both work , she is not allowed in the house , hence spends all day in conservatory with the door open into the garden , but ...... she barks and barks , i have 5 dogs and they only bark when post comes etc but she just barks it seems for something to do and when she starts it can go on for age's , i sort of know the people and know the dogs name so when i really have had enough i go out and yell at her to be quiet , they go to work early and my daughter is sometimes still in bed .
Another concern is she does'nt have the biggest of coats and it is getting cold now , bloody folks are so ignorant sometimes when getting a dog , makes me angry

No because they could blame you for her barking. Speak to them first to let them know about the barking if that doesn't resolve it then its a job for the dog warden and local council which might actually benefit the dog in the long run if she is not allowed in the house.

Don't agree they would blame me for her barking as i only go and shout at her after she has been going strong for 10 minutes or so, plus they are'nt there ? .

Yes but if your going out there then they could say that she is barking at an intruder... cover yourself go the correct route in the long run it will benefit all of you. As you have so many dogs yourself the last thing you want is someone complaining about your dogs because their dog is barking.

maybe they dont know shes barking so I would talk to them first and if they dont do anything about it then I would just shout at her if it shuts her up. I would also offer them advice about keeping her inside as shes cold etc :)

I would NOT call the dog warden!!! She is not dangerous, just barking! and only a pup! they probably wouldn't do anything about it but if they do it sounds like she is a loved family dog so taking her away would be devastating. The amount of dogs in kennels at the moment is ridiculous so taking one away just because it barks is a bit silly in my opinion

Hollie, the OP is within her rights to call the Dog Warden and environmental health, dog warden doesn't just deal with 'dangerous dogs' and they don't just wade in and take dogs away, they issue advice and threaten notifications, which make normal people think a bit harder about their dog husbandry.

Plus there is a big difference in the sound of a dog barking out of boredom and a dog barking at an intruder.

I would actually shout at someone else's dog for nonsense barking. I lost the plot with a dog once at training for nonsense barking and yelled 'Oh FFS Bianka, shut yer ****!', walked around the corner and bumped straight into her owner :o she is the mother of my older dog in fairness :p

I would report it too.

Hollie why would you opt to keep a dog in a home that wasnt suitable which is what the OP was saying??? Just because there are loadsa dogs in rescue doesnt mean leave the ones that are not in suitable homes where they are! Its not just barking its being a nuissance, and y do think its barking?

If you speak to the owner first then they will know its you if you go on to report them later. Plus someone of authority might give them some advice on looking after their dog and they may take some notice xx

Is this the dog that was allowed to roam around the house alone and eat loft insulation, IE, glass?

Also the neighbours will take more notice of advice from the dog warden than from a neighbour.

Thats if your area has a dog warden ours has been made redundant due to spending cuts. Also if a dog is barking yes I would shout at it. We all pay to live in houses so why should we pay to live in houses with noise polution.

I once lived next door to a lady that had two old english sheep dog puppies.
They were locked out sometimes until after midnight. And they barked....and barked.....and barked...You would knock on her door, ask her to take them in as they were barking and she would say "are they really?"......err yes.....not every house has the telly up full to drown out background noise!
It got SO bad I considered a multitude of things (including shooting the dogs) before finally moving house.
Would I shout at that dog? Ummm yes I flipping well would! Then I would go and shout at the owner!

I'd be shouting at the dog, and perhaps even having a quick pop with a water pistol

But given the dogs other living arrangements, I wouldn't be above talking to the owners, and perhaps contacting the dog warden :)

On the rare occasion our dogs are left outside (they have a shed to go in and usually just for a couple of hours in the summer) i encourage next door to tell them to shut up! the Lab has this awful habbit of if she hears/sees something that makes her bark (the doorbell/a cat etc) she'll then go on letting out one bark every minute or so for hours afterwards!

no idea why she does it daft animal but i dont expect anyone else put up with it when we sure as hell dont when were home. A quick jade shurrup! and peace is restored :D

I would, but it will only a temporary solution. My guess would be that the dog eventually ignores your shouting or barks so that it actually gets feedback from someone!

As someone else said - ring the dog warden, it sounds like your previous convos with the owners have been completely ignored so I think attempting to discuss it with them would be a waste of time!

Yes the same pup that ate the loft insulation , they will be knocking on my door soon as i took a parcel in for them today so will just mention her barking see what they say .

I Confess to not having read every single reply, but I would in the first instance talk to your neighbours - they may be unaware of how often and long she barks for!

My neighbour has moaned about my dogs in the past and she now has her daughter's dog on occasion and that just howls and barks continually from the minuite it is left until they return. I know she is blissfully unaware and I feel for the poor dog as I expect he does it at the daughter's too and they just comment what a good dog it is.

I think to report them immediately is rather unneighbourly - they need to at least know what a nuisance their dog is being and to realise for the dog's sake it is unhappy. Maybe you could suggest they might need to get a dog/walker/sitter to come in and let/take the dog out middays? I had to do this when I worked in a n office I wouldn't have left mine roaming in and out.
I think if you have a proper outdoor kennel and run and the dog has company and becomes accustomed to it then that is a different case altogether.

I was reported years ago by a neighbour for barking from within the house (I had a very yappy vocal swedish vallhund :D) and anyway it transpired that the neighbour's son was actually provoking the dog through the letterbox - we caught him doing it - I could have merrily punched him :(. That put that complaint to bed immediately :)

Absolutely yes. A neighbour of mine had a very barky lab. If it was going on a bit I'd simply yell over the garden wall to it. Using it's name I told it to be quiet - and it would shut up.

As for your neighbours dog generally. Not sure what you can do.

Obviously using a water pistol is not a good idea. This poor dog has enough to deal with already.

I've always been told that shouting at a barking dog can encourage them, as they think you're joining in, IYSWIM. Unless you know the dog and have a "stop" work. If I were you I'd have a word with the neighbours and if it doesn't stop call environmental health/the dog warden.

Speak to the neighbour....... fingerXd that'll do the trick, next course of action.... dog warden, after that if no improvement I'd be shouting or trying one of those bark activated thingys, you know, the ones inaudible to humans, I assume they can be aimed directionally. Anyone tried one? do they work?
