I do smoke , but when I rode , always used the clubhouse ) as it was called ) to have a fag in .
I do smoke when fence judging - either in the car or very carefully in the field , making sure the ash is put into a disgusting looking bottle of flat coke .
When I used to have lessons as a child/teenager in the 1970's , most instructors smoked in the school . Don't know what they did with the cigs when they'd finished as I was too busy being yelled at for cr*p riding !
I remember when was first learning to ride, there was always one instructor I really hated having (male) I always thought there wasn't something quite right about him, and if I could see he was a little 'pervy' at age 12 ish there must be something not quite right about him!
Anyways, I remember having a pony that used to be going along just fine, happy as anything, then just stop dead and try to roll. He would do this in walk, trot and canter
so I ended up falling off 3 times in about 20mins 'cause he kept stopping and trying to roll.
So instructor (said male) got a tad stressed, think 12 year old falling off a lot, getting upset, wanting to go home but not due to finish lesson for another 40mins, I don't blame him..! So he got another horse ready for me to ride, and he then lit up a fag (in the indoor school I must add!) and started smoking, then said something along the lines of "don't worry, this is our little secret" then winked
que me not liking him even more!
When he was done with it, he made a hole in the sand and burried it..
I think thats dreadful. But then I disagree with smoking around horses full stop - my biggest pet hate being people who smoke whilst sitting on the horse! Yeuch. I just think it looks so trashy and disrespectful (plus, Id love to see how long they are still sitting there once they drop their ciggy and it rolls under the saddle gullet!!)
Goodness me, some people are so stupid! At my RS most of the instructors smoke, and they use a designated smoking area which is right round the back of the place, a long way from the stables, hay barn, muck heap etc - basically in the middle of an empty field!
As for smoking on board your horse - I'd be worried about swallowing the cig if he did something unexpected! It's like when you see kids running with lolly sticks in their mouths.
Eewwww no way!!! I don't smoke, but used to. Never smoked on yard though, YO had a separate area for it which they were very strict about, and rightly so. I hate seeing people smoking on their horses too that is so chav / pikey.
