Would you stay at this yard?

Well, been round a good few yards, having a second look at one of them. I think my mare will like it, the owners have been absolutely lovely and they have an excellent instructor who runs courses/teaches from there. Fingers crossed we'll be moving in a couple of weeks and I keep a close eye on the current yard in the meantime >:(

Regardless of all those things happening after you moved on, i wouldn't have even entertained moving on there in the first place at £65pw with no school or tack room... ludicrous!

Tbh there are loads of other liveries that have exceptional facilities for that money so my opinion would be to move. Horses shouldn't have to live in those conditions with barbed wire and lice ect. Hope this helps:eek:

Sorry! Bit of a long one, trying to keep it short :)

Been at my livery yard for 5 months now, am thinking I should move on. I pay £65 pw, there is no school, no te
a room, no tack room etc and hacking is 90% road. What niggles is for the
same amount of money I'm sure I can get more facilities and some
decent off road hacking. Also, there
are some issues I have to contend
with:-

* Part barbed wire fence to field
as long as its in good condition its ok personally i hate wire

* Less than 1 acre per horse for mix
This is the same at my yard but ex grazing well maintained if maintained well no probs

of 3 x 14-15 hh horses, 6 are 15.2 hh- 17 hh Field is 7 acres
thats fine as long as well maintained animals are not out on it 24-7 and some of the grazing resting while some used if not no
we have thats amount divided into 4 with 8 animals 2 resting two used fields are poo picked fert - harrowed- weedkiller we have to much grass ours are not 24-7 its how you maintain your land plays a big part !

* Field never poo picked
my pet hate no i would not like this i think there is NO excuse not to poo pick if you have big fields get a poo picker machine or get someone who does this to do it . In this day and age of machines IMO its lazy you have a horse care for it care for its stable but dont clear up after it ???:confused::confused:

* Horses attended from 9 am, in bed by 4 pm
ours are out 7-4pm weekdays 9-4pm weekends so you time is our weekend time so i would be fine with this

* Lice breakout
i would not be happy with this unless professionally being dealt with

* Bleeding leg unnoticed.
in hindsight no but if in hidden area i have missed the odd cut

* No water a few times on visiting
was this just the trough had been drunk dry or like this more than a day?

* No hay a few times upon visiting as "She's already eaten it".
no but how about yard owner lease it out so can go in later as we do so horse has it for the night

* Boggy field contributing to mud fever/thrush issues.
as before some fields should be rested

* Stable drainage issues meaning eye watering puddles left for horse to stand in, contributing to thrush. Supposed to have been sorted out in Dec and again last month.*
NO this i would complain about

* Everyone apart from me is a friend of the YM so tend to keep *my mouth shut as I'm sure I would be in the minority.
Well so what if you need to complain speak to owner things cant change unless they are brought to her attention

* No yard insurance/cover.

This needs to be in the paper work so you are made aware of this before moving we dont have yard insurance but we say that in contract and owners need their own

* YM has recently employed someone to look after horses 2/3 days a week as they are now taking those days off.

so what we all need times off i have days off this is not a issue unless the employed is not
good or neglecting their duties

Good points?*

*small yard, not bitchy and no one looks you up and down when you are there

*10-15 min journey to yard

So, if you were me, would you be spending tomorrow looking for a new yard?[/QUOTE]

Thats my comment

are you getting what is written in your contract as in whats included in the livery ? if you are ok but if somethings not I would tell YO if not done then start looking . Make sure you read a livery contract with what is included in the bill. And the Terms and Conditions

Good for you. At the end of the day you're paying for your horse to be looked after and if you're not happy then move - for both your sakes :D.

I'd have moved my horse before now. Having said that presume you knew about fencing, no school & mainly road hacking before you moved on?

No school was fine as we had a field to work in but now we aren't allowed in it. The road hacking isn't too bad, I don't mind it but I think it must be a bit boring for my horse and obviously now we can't work in the field we are limited to what we can do on a road. The barbed wire I didn't think was mic of an issue but I know some people here have strong feelings about it.
The yard manager having a day or three off a week? Well, she said she would be there 7 days a week, not me. I wouldn't leave a goldfish with the other person on the yard, let alone a horse... See another thread I asked about.....

The negatives outweighs the positives.

Definitely move I agree. For that price that service is appalling.

I'd expect to have a 5* service for that with excellent facilities, good turnout, big/clean/dry stables etc...

Good luck in your search, your horse will thank you :)
