Would you take on a 19 year old horse.

Get him vetted - a vets opinion on the arthritis makes it worth it. And a lame horse costs just as much to keep...

However, if only mildly stiff on no meds, you may find a joint supp/24/7 turnout makes a huge difference, and then there is a possibility of medicating the joint later down the road too - a raft of options of keeping an arthritic horse sound enough to hack, assuming it does degenerate (and sometimes it only does very slowly).

I had a younger horse than him with arthritis, whom I never had any problems with at all. It is very manageable.

I wouldn't hesitate if it was fit healthy and was a sterling character.

Lami, a bit of arthritis I can deal with but I would hesitate at history of colic or it it had vices.

I have a 24 year old cob that I still ride, so age alone would be no issue, really depends on if/what migth be wrong otherwise as they all vary.

My mother and I almost bought a 22 year old cob last year. Sadly, due to his age, she backed out of it thinking he would end up dying shortly after or taking ill.

Horse sold soon after. I say go for it. Do a trial, see how you go and then make your decision.
Good luck.
