Would you tell someone you know that the yard they are on is up for sale?

As per title.

Just found out from my gardner that my old livery yard is being put on the market in the next two weeks. Very sad as the yard owners are lovely.

Now here is my problem, the owner told my gardner today, as he also works for her, that they told the y/m about their desicion over a month ago but she hasn't said a word to anyone. I saw two of her liverys at a show yesterday and they are blissfully unaware.

Now I can see from y/m point of view that she wants to keep her biz going for as long as poss, but if I were a livery I would like to know sooner rather than later as this time of year stables are filling up fast for the winter.

Soooo! What shall I do? I don't want to loose someone money but at the same time i'd hate to see some of those liverys who are also friends left in the lerch! :(
 
Perhaps its being sold as a going concern with the livery business passing onto the next owner? One round here did that recently. Perhaps they don't want everyone to get scared and leave, when it may not sell for ages...
 
I wouldn't before it was on the market ... you never know, they might have a change of heart.

I've been on 2 yards that were sold but both kept running as normal, so there wasn't really any stress. It could be sat on the market for years as lending criteria hardens up.
 
Mmm, I probably wouldn't say anything either. Not until it's on the market - once it's there you could casually ask if anyone had seen it was for sale or anything?

Out of curiosity, whereabout is it? Not asking as accurately as a street name or anything!!
 
If the property is on the market (Being advertised) then it's public knowledge and information the liveries have access to so i would mention it to your friend and perhaps show her the advert?
If this is just gossip from your gardener then i would be careful to mention anything untill all the facts are known.

It may take the yard a while to sell although this happened to me about 5 years ago. The yard i was one went up for sale and we weren't told by the YO until we showed her the ad. I started looking for another yard straight away as we were coming in to winter and i didn't want to be without a stable. I left a month later and 4 months after that the yard sold to property developers that converted the barns in to houses.

I can understand if the YO doesn't want to lose business but on the other hand your horses welfare (or your friends horses) are more important to you and if yards are hard to get on in your area then I'd advise to look sooner rather than later

Yard is defo going on the market :( From what I was told the yard owners were concerned the the y/m hadn't yet told anyone hence my post.

Waiting until the ad is out is kind of what I thought :o

It's a tricky one as I don't really want to be a tell tale.

Id like to know asap tho.
 
I understand where your coming from but i don't know how many horses are on that yard but can you imagine 10, 20, 30 etc horse owners all looking for good yards in the area at the same time?!!?

I was lucky to only be on a 10 horse yard when ours went up for sale and a couple of people wanted to get a yard together but most yards only have a couple of stables spare at anyone time...just something to think about?

Also i hated the strangers walking around eying up the place...most of them not horsey so didn't slow down or tried stroking all the horses!!!
 
SC- that was my first thought! All the good yards have waiting lists and two of the smaller yards in the area have already been sold, both within a month! and both got rid of the liverys :(
 
EEP...I would start looking now. Just because your looking doesn't mean you have to hand your notice in at your current yard but if you find the right yard then either put your name on the waiting list or weigh up the options of moving or sticking it out.
