The horse next to Beau gave her self a bit of a fright yesterday and got herself a bit cast/tangled up in her rug rail - I cant be 100% sure as I don't remember seeing/hearing her go down to roll then all I heard was this almighty banging. She got up and was a bit like 'phew' but she was lifting one back leg, then the other then the other again for a wee while. She was munching hay though, and not distressed, just a bit 'surprised'. I tolk one of the guys on the yard who said she will just have been stretching her legs after getting stuck.
So 2 members of the yard know she went down. And she seemed fine and happy when I left at 7:30pm (it happened at about 6pm). 1 person said NOT to say to the owner of the horse.

She wasn't up so I obviously couldn't yesterday. But do you think I should? I do, as I would want to know if Beau was ever cast - and this is the main reason I don't use the rug rail in the stable as I've seen him roll and he is soo awkward about it that I don't think he would really get him self up, or he would just give up and lie there.
Plus this isn't a cheap/allrounder horse - I know that shouldn't make a difference but in a way it does as she is asked to perform more.

But as I didn't see exactly what happened, do you think I should tell her? I do plan to, but I also don't want to worry her over nothing.

I would, even if its a did so and so mention your mare got herself caught yesterday.
I would want to know and would not be happy if i wasnt told.

I would like to know, and I would hope someone would tell me, even if it wasn't serious.

I think you should mention it to her in a calm way so as not to make a big deal out of it but so she knows.

I'd tell - I would definitely want to know if it was my horse. It's up to her whether she worries about it and whether it's 'nothing' or not

Absolutely you should tell. She could have done anything to herself, and even if it's something minor, at least the owner would have an idea how it happened. If she is completely fine, then great, but the owner should still know about it. I tell my owners everything, however insignificant. After all, it's their horse. I'd do it quietly though

I know!! They are scaffolding poles threaded with the massive rope that ships use. I;ve cracked my nut off of it and it was not nice

. Going to get my dad to take mine down for me this week.

Actually, just thought - our yard say they take no responsibility for anything fitted into the stables - yet it was the yard/member of staff that fitted them. DOH

Another yes, even if she appears to be fine if the horse turns out to have unexplained problems in the future you would want to know that she had - or even MIGHT have been cast in the stable. Even if you're not sure - just tell her you're not sure. Owner might want to put up bigger banks or keep an eye out for any problems over next few days.

Sounds pretty irresponsible of the other person not to want to tell her.

Yes, I would tell her what you know. Why don't they want the owner to know? And for god's sake - get rid of those rug rags, how dangerous.

Yes I would want to know, don't really see why you wouldn't want to tell?

Oh no I do want to tell!!! Unfortunately I am not at the yard tonight. As for the rug rails - they were there when I came. We dont have anywhere to store rugs except for a rain outside the stables - which i cant use as thehorse next door likes ot cuddle beaus rugs at night so they get a bit ikky

Does the person that said not to tell the owner have something to hide? I can't see why they wouldn't want to tell the owner. Imagine if it hapened again and they lost the horse to a broken leg? I would be upset if I had found out down the line that it had happened before and no one had told me.
I can't think of anything more dangerous than shipping rope in stables. As powerful as horses are, they would never be able to break that if they got stuck. I recommend buying a small shed (perhaps splitting the costs with other liveries) to store rugs. That or a Very high shelf in your stable that you have to stand on something to reach.

I think it is because the owner is very knowlegeable and not afraid to speak her mind. If I see her tonight I am going to say to her.

We did have that Idea about a shelf up the back - but its a corrogated Iron wall, so not totally sure if it would work - plus they need to be able to get at the rugs to change them.
Personally I dont see what is wrong with just putting the rug over the door!

Hmmm, is there no way you could get her number and drop her a text?
If not, I would defo leave her a note, she really should know as soon as possible incase it happens again.
