Hi All

As i have mentioned before i sold my little pony on saturday to a lovely family, they are coming to collect him this weekend.

Any way as the title says would you think i was crazy if you were the people buying him and when you turned up i gave you a little book with everything written down as to how he is, what he likes/dislikes how he is with vet/farrier etc.

Sort of like a mini instruction book.

It is something i have started doing but not sure if the people will think i am mad :(
 
fantastic idea, will make settling in an getting to know the pony so much easier if they get a heads up on his quirks :) i did something similar when parents had to look after my boy for a couple of weeks- saved a lot a headaches with things like flyspray, hoses etc.
 
Go for it, then you'll feel a little happier about letting him go. Can't do any harm! And it'll make their lives easier too- it'll probably answer questions they forgot to ask.
 
Yes, you are crazy!

I am joking! You should see the instructions, in triplicate, when I go away for a fortnights holiday!

Brilliant idea, why don't more people do it, so helpful.

Definitely not crazy, FWIW I know of a few (very high class) dealers yards who do this routinely for horses they sell - although they also charge for the 'privilege' :)
 
when i sold Ruby i printed off several photos from key points in her life (eg foaling Chico, photo from before she was imported in Germany, her winning first place at dressage etc) and wrote on the back when and where it was taken etc.

i then stapled them into the back of the passport. Hopefully no one will remove them and some of her past will be kept safe from owner to owner.

I also wrote my email address in the passport

I was worried they would think i was telling them how to look after him.

The thing that got me thinking about doing this was when they came to see him the first thing they said was awww look he's clipped, but then never asked how he was to clip and the answer to that is a bugger lol.

I have also bought him an advent calender for xmas with horse treats in so i am going to give it to the little girl to give to him.

Hopefully after all of this they wont think they have bought a pony off a crazy lady :D
 
I always give buyers a sheet with when things like when the horse was last wormed/injected/teeth done and size of rugs/boots/bridles/saddles etc when I sell them, plus current feed etc.

While I like your idea of a book, be very careful what you write - if you put that he is a bugger to clip etc it could come back on you further down the line.. Mention things to them, but don't put faults in writing..
 
Thanks i wasnt going to put he is a bugger to clip lol, just something along the lines of he can be a bit scared being clipped but with reassurance, a hay net and time it can be done.

Ellie came with a book like that detailing her quirks. It was fantastic, and showed us how loved she'd been. The bits like 'She can't wear boots, all her leg hair falls out' and "If she sweats, don't let it dry on- all her hair falls out' were very handy!
 
I think it is a great idea :) would certainly have helped me when I bought my big ginger!

I forgot to ask about loads then felt like I was hasseling the previous owner bombarding them with texts/calls etc..
 
I think it is a great idea :) I sure that my ponies old owners got sick and tired of my questions over the following weeks, just make sure ' lovely' boy was happy...

The upside from my being so annal is that we are now good friends :D

I am sure they will very much appreciate it
 
I think it's a lovely idea! I sometimes ponder the things I would put in Jasper's "instruction book"... Not that I would ever sell him, but these thoughts occur to me when hacking! lol
 
Not mad at all - it shows you love him and want him to be looked after properly.
An excellent idea - i remember i did this when as a first time mum i left my baby with his gran for the weekend - his gran who knew babies and children inside out!
If they are nice peopel they will love it - you carry on adding whatever you can and dont worry about looking silly - far from it. You sound like a brilliant loving caring person :D
 
Not crazy at all - I think it should be compulsory! Would make the move so much less stressful for all concerned. Hope it all goes well for you xx
 
I have just remembered when I went on holiday, many years ago I did a sheet for his baby sitter called ' dexters day' lol

She thought I was mad!!!!!! But loved it all the same, it set the tone on how to keep him happy
