Would you travel tacked up or not?

In your situation I probably would give it a go. Don't do the girth too loose, ensure stirrups are secure and put a decent rug over the top. I don't with mine. But he's quiet and 13.1hh so fairly easy to wrestle (famous last words!). My concerns have nothing to do with the horse and everything to do with protecting the saddle that cost a fortune!!
 
Never would ... Just would bother me too much... That the horse could get caught up or the saddle damaged. But never had horse that u could not tack up either, I would just get there early enough to settle the horse and take the time or takes to saddle up.
 
I regularly travel mine tacked up. i also have a 3.5 lorry, i don't give a haynet and he's a horse that travels well. Good advice to make sure the saddle is tight enough so that it doesn't slip, just check it's in the right position before you mount as occasionally mine has slipped back a little. Fairly common for hunting, I travel tacked up to hunt, tuck or tie everything out of the way, rug over the top, no haynets, and we do travel a little over an hour sometimes. Both horses are good travellers I have CCTV in the lorry and have never had an issue. I know there are risks and it's not ideal but there are so many potential risks it's a wonder any of us do anything with our horses!
 
Good point about insurance, whoever brought that up. If you were to have an accident travelling your horse(s) your insurance may be invalid by having your horse tacked up...?
 
I travel tacked up a lot of the time. I travel my boy with his bridle on, just take the reins off, take flash off and loosen cavesson, headcollar over top.

Used to travel my mare with saddle for hunting, she was far too excited to faff about putting a saddle on, just used a saddle cover and rug for protection :)
 
I travel mine with their saddles on (albeit only 10 minutes down the road) frequently as I go to a weekly lesson and the carpark is dark whne I get there, plus I'm always in a hurry to get there after work and find it's so much quicker and easier to saddle up at home. One is fine, the other has put holes in two rugs I throw over the top where the stirrups are, where he leans against the partition. I just make sure I use the same holey rugs on him when I travel him like that, so maybe don't use your best rug over the top! I put their bridles on when I get there. One has a martingale so I got a martingale attachment with a clip rather than a buckle to make attaching it easier. I'd say an hour with just a saddle would be the maximum I'd travel.

A friend can't do it with her horse, when she tried he was falling over - he's fine without. There's only one way you'll find out if it works, but maybe go for a trial run first, you don't want her in even more of a state when you get there!

I do it and havent had any problems. I dont go more than 35 mins tacked up though since dont give a haynet. I sometimes have to take both mine to a school I hire
and I dont have time to tack and untack them within my hire time. I do leave the saddle cover on and a fleece or thermatex. I also go to an evening weekly clinic where there arent lights in the car park. Sooo much easier if ready to go when i get ther.
