As title, I have 2 yearlings which are getting somewhat bothered by the flies, would you use a mask on them, leave them as they are, or use the fly repellent collars??

personally no, would just use some fly repellant as needed . our yearlings are all right monkeys, and i dread to think what havoc they would cause with fly masks on!

dont think mine would accept wearing one, i'll be catching her and applying fly repellent, although i'll unfortunately be covering her in sunscreen too. she'll be happy NOT lol

Both of my yearlings wore fly hats and they only took them off every so often!

They had the ears and everything, I think they were gratefull!!!!

I wouldnt put a fly mask on an adult horse let alone a yearling who is turned away. Dirty nasty germ-harbouring things. Dont you know they are the work of the devil, lol.

My 2 wore them from being foals, (their 4 now) the flies can get bad here in summer, I had no problems, well apart from Harley taking them off the others horses now and again..lol and I did get a couple of wrecked ones...from them playing..

they also wore rugs from being foals too. (when cold and wet)

and now they have no issues with anything flapping round their faces or wearing rugs etc...

No horse at our yard has these on over night as there have been issues with horses having problems with their vision..

I wouldn't.

I would be very careful using those collars on very young horses too- I have had a horse have a horrendous allergic reaction to one.

Definitely not! Having seen my 'sensible' horse canter through an electric fence the other day, presumably because the mask had reduced his vision and he hadn't seen it, I don't turn him out in one any more and I definitely wouldn't recommend it for turned-away babies :)
