thats got no rider due to going to uni but is currently in work (not sure how many days) & the rider only takes out in company, when you want a horse to hack out on his own??

Would there be somebody there to show you the horse ridden before you got on? And would they be able to show you it walking down the road on it's own to prove that it does actually hack on it's own and isn't in fact a nappy little b*ggar?

Yes.

It might just be that the current rider prefers to go out with others - not necessarily that the horse has a problem with going by itself - have you rung and asked?

You could go and ride it and after riding in an arena, ride it out down the drive and along the road a little way and see if it goes ok. You could always then go back for a 2nd viewing and hack it out properly. Always worth a look I think.

I would want to know the reason that the rider didn't hack on their own, and it would put me off to be honest as if the reason is because it is seriously nappy, then you have to question whether it will go in the SJ or dressage arena on it's own. It depends on what you want to do with it and whether you always have someone to hack out with. Sounds like the seller is being honest though....

Think it's a bit silly to view if you want to hack alone and this one doesn't, unless it was lack of rider confidence. I'd want to try myself if I thought it was 'the one' and see how I got on.

Seller says he doesnt really hack on own and he prefers to hack in company. I think its his preference. Thats why Im pondering whether to view the horse.

Ask him if he will sell it with a warranty that it will hack on its own and take it back if it does not. If he says no, leave well alone, it's a nappy devil! If he says yes, get it in writing if you buy it.

I bought both of my first two horses having been told that they wouldn't hack alone and both did after a bit of a battle. Just took time and determination. Depends on how much you like the horse really.

IMO I think it is just rider preference that means the horse is taken out in company only.....

If the horse offers everything else then I would go for it! As others have said, I would definitely organize to take the horse down the road on his own! xoxo
