I have my dressage lesson today and have to travel 27miles to Oxford.

Its really windy today, do you think I'll be ok pulling a 510 ifor williams trailer in this wind. There will be a horse in it

My car was ratleing around like crazy this morning on the road so I wouldn't but I live near the coast so don't know where you are!

Personally, I would not risk it. I tow my horse a lot, I have a 510. It is a big heavy trailer, but it is so tall, it makes it a bad idea in high winds.

If you are travelling on exposed motorways or roads which are in open areas it is not nice.

id rather loose £45 than risk my trailer tipping - the recovery/vets bills and stress would be a lot more, not even thinking about the risk of the horses life :S! Thats just my opinion anyway...

But the wind where i am has just died down loads, could you just see what the weather is like before you need to leave?

I know Snowy, I totally agree with you on that

I have been studying the weather forecast and apparently its foing to ease to 25mph gust at 12noon and then get lighter, big difference to 40mph gust this morning

I'm all ready but will leave it till the last minute, if the winds are still bad then its off. Why does the weather do this when I've got something on

I think if you had to ask the question then you have serious doubts so thats probably your answer

....but the wind has died down here so by this afternoon might not be as bad where your heading for

I'm heading to Oxford Charlie 27miles and you're right I have serious doubts.

Think I'll ring now and call it off then i can stop thinking about it

I'm in Reading and the weather isn't too bad at all here, yes there's a bit of wind but I'd tow in it as it's breezy but not a gale, probably less than yesterday (had to spend the afternoon shivering at the football pitch). I'd check as you're more exposed up that way, but it's definitely calmed right down here now.

I'm in Hertfordshire so not THAT far from oxford and I definately wouldn't tow in this weather. I nearly got blown over in the field this morning... never mind a nice big trailer.... wouldn't be a pleasant experience for the horse anyway...

I cancelled my trip to a show centre the other day due to the winds even though we were only 1.4 miles away. Just didn't want to risk the horse in the trailer in the wind, plus the lane I had to drive down has overhanging trees and i am really cautious of trees now as someone that owned the local timber merchants by our yard died when a tree fell on his car. So sad.

Are you off to Waterstock?
It is dying down here a bit but the gusts are still really bad.
I would take a lorry but not a trailer.
Have fun with SB if you go

I had hired out a menage today that was around 40 mins away, when I felt the wind this morning driving to the yard I knew there was no way I would tow in it. When I phoned the centre they were very understanding

i was towing a horsebox in high winds in Cambridgeshire and the wind caught the trailer and flipped the trailer around, pulling the car with it, and crashing into the central reservation with the trailer landing on its side. The horses had to be cut out of the trailer by the fire brigade, which took two hours and closed the road. Thankfully they only had minor injuries but my horse is still off work 6wks later.

Please please don't take the risk.

I'd ask if the lesson will go ahead in the weather, they may cancel themselves, that way you wouldn't loose the money.

I'd also ask them whether they will offset the money you loose against a new lesson. Our place will charge you half if you cancel (not full as it doesn't actually cost them full if you cancel) but if you book again within 7 days they will let you use it toward that.

im in witney near oxford and they have just shut the A40 off due to wind blowing the tree's down! it doesnt appear to be THAT windy but it obviously is

I had the same thing Saturday, It should have been our first solo show, only 15 miles away but in the end I was too worried about towing so cancelled.
My mum had driven up 80 miles to visit and babysit so I was gutted as its very rare we get the chance to go anywhere. Spent the rest of the day contsantly checking the weather and thinking 'damn its not so bad I'm such a wuss' but TBH glad I didn't try, there will be other shows!
Good luck on getting some cancellation fees back
