well actually didnt pay anything for Hector either, but has cost me more than any other horse I've owned in vets bills, but he is my horse of a lifetime

Lou x
PS can i ride missy before the end of term.. I always wanted tooooooo
LOL
hector only had one leg that was actually insurable, till last year that is when he did that one in as well, he was a very successful steeplechaser though and is fine as long as he is going in a straight line
Got one, if you go onto the racing post website and look up the horse charlie chops, thats my boy! Did really badly but his father Persuit of Happiness is very good and his grandfather Green Dessert is well known in USA.
However hes the most accident prone horse ive ever met. He has hurt his back, tendon bone, he tried to jump out of the arena and fell. His nickname is Orvil lol, he does some silly things!
J was an ex racer and he was the best thing that has happened to me.
Ok he was stoppy and moody and he never wanted to really do any work. He was known to bite and it took me months to get him to trust me, but he was bloody worth it. Gaining his trust was just amazing.
and issues with both front legs (caused by his incredibly flat feet, but seems fine if he he doesnt work in circles or on hard ground) our off hind was our good leg, till last year when he damaged a tendon, along with both hind suspenseries!
he also fractured his pelvis when he was racing and has muscle wastage on one side of his quarters
dont know why i keep him going really!
except he currently looks amazing well and somehow sound??!!! dont ask me how
Yes I would consider buying an ex racer and had I been more experienced at owning horses and a bit lighter framed I would have seriously bought one if I had not loaned my lad. Perhaps in the future, if time and money allows and I get my confidence back then I will. However I would get as much information as I could and join as many ex racer forums as I could to gain help in turning them around as some racehorses can become institutionalised which I would need help in changing.
It would have be a national hunt type though unless it was a larger framed dual purpose as I would not even consider a smaller flat bred horse.
Typical really as my friends who own and breed racehorses retired one which I did a feature story on a few years ago. A lovely giant of a horse by Komaite. Very sweet natured but due to a breathing problem it would have needed to be tubed to have any chance of winning races and they didn't want to put the horse through it. It ended up being sold to a friend of their's as a hack but if it had been more recently when I was in a position to buy I would have seriously asked about it as it had not had that much training and only raced under rules once so hopefully would not have taken much to change its way of thinking as it was very laid back.
Nevermind perhaps one day in the future .....
