I'm looking to buy another horse but am having difficulty finding something that stands out. The horse has to have character, my boy has far too much character and I love it

but it also has to be a bit different

Bear in mind that my boy has a joint problem which is well managed at the mo but that could change at any time with this hard ground

so he is limited with what he can do

He is not going anywhere and is not retiring but he could take life a bit easier (not that he has a hard life now

)

You haven't said how much experience you have, and whether you want to compete at all! Therefore I haven't answered the poll....

Yes need to know your experience first before really answering the poll, The last button on the poll, I would only say yes to if the said horse was happy to work and enjoyed life.

Depends on what you want to do, how much time and patience you have, and how experienced you are. I'm guessing you want to compete otherwise it wouldn't be an option on your poll

Maybe find some middle ground, get a younger horse that is lacking mileage, but has the basics so you're not starting from scratch? that way maybe you could get out and compete this summer, but just a few little things

I wouldn't have a horse that didn't have a strong character and something that made them stand out, but thats really my personal preferance for something a little more unique and unusual than everyone else has.
I brought Fudge as a second mount two years ago, he'd never been schooled and was only hacked out from the field in company and our progress has been slow but every small goal is a huge thing that makes me really proud of him so it is very rewarding in that sense but there are times when I long for a schoolmaster type who could teach me and I could compete on.
Personally I'd think long and hard about the impact a second horse would have on you and your current horses lives, and try a range of horses at different stages in their training until you find one you click with.
