Wolfies are really quite passive but I really think Hazzie would have. There would have had to been real intent to harm us or actual fisticuffs ...I do believe he would though.
I'm pretty sure the 3 I have at the moment would, being GSDs they are quite protective. My old girl certainly would have done and did. I always felt completely safe with her. Some rowdy yobs once thought it would be fun to mess around outside the car whilst I was waiting to pick up daughter outside a pub. I thought the dog was going to go through the back window at them! The soon moved away
. Yet you could leave her in the back of the car at shows with the tailgate up and she would never show any agression towards people walking past.
Yes - Finn would protect his mum!! I don't know HOW far he would go, but when I was out walking with him around a HUGE private field (OH's dads) I walked one way with my boy, whilst OH walked the other in full camooutfit (was hunting!)
OH came up over hill and my boy went made until 1) I told him it was OK and 2) OH called him and he went mad, tail wagging and shot straight over for a cuddle!!
I know that my oldest Wire Viz would - he's very protective, especially when I'm on my own. He wouldn't settle when we were in the caravan, the slightest noise upset him.
I'm not sure about the Terriers, I think Jimmy would, Millie would if we were at home. Really no idea on Mouse though.
Bridget Midget puppy dog would just kiss everyone to death
I suppose she might be good for biting some ankles
but Bostons have zero aggressive tendencies toward humans, even strangers. They make awesome watchdogs but terrible guarders (see Exhibit A for her reaction to the public
).
Saying that, Stella did once--just the once--growl and bare her teeth at a man approaching us in a deserted part of Central Park, so perhaps she isn't so daft when it comes to detecting real danger.
If another dog attacked me, however, I have no doubt that little Stells would bravely fight to the death. Being a bully breed, BTs don't back down.
My wee 17 month old JRT had started to show signs of protecting me! ESP in car... the other day i was talking to someone that Boris didn't know he went for him teeth baring, growling and barking (no biting) when the bloke leaned on to my window! was suprised by this..... in way i am glad i know that he'll defend me as i am single woman. Will keep the windows little open next time as wouldn't want him on dangerous dogs list!
he's like lamb other times! loves people and other things but when in his terrority...... the devil dog comes out!
No mine would either hide, run away or lick the attackers to death. Wussy lurchers.
The GSD at work would do the same as my lurchers, she's a bloody wuss too.
I think the male collie would protect me though, just because he is very funny with strangers coming into his space.
NO - and hes a Doberman!!!!!! hes such a complete dope! but I love that as I wanted a dog that was a good visual deterrent guard dog but was actually a wuss
More likely the Border terrier would get over excited and bite attackers kneecaps or attack his trouser bottoms.......:-O
I take both my Akita and rotti to work...and they have take it upon themselves to being my body guards...esp my rotti she is fiercly protective of the car, house and me.....even towards OH when he is play fighting with me...and I don't mind either...as I have complete control to call either of them back or off anything....I do feel very safe on my own at work with them, and I know there is no chance of anyone nicking them
i know my rottie would but not sure about my collie, he would from other dogs and horses as when i was pregnant no other strange dog was allowed near me and the ponies had to be on their best behaviour else he would try and chase them off, he is now protective of my son with other dogs bless him but not sure what he would do with a person, my rottie is very protective of my car, house, field and me, but i can control him which is the difference, but normally he is the biggest softy i have ever met.
I don't really know and hope I never have to find out! I think there's a chance Josh would but I think Daisy would just run around anxiously and look upset.
My old collie did several times, my goldie used to tho she's probably a bit old now. My lab has growled a few times but he's such a softie that I don't think he would do anything.
my border collie would and esp if it was a man she hates them apart from the OH. where i work we do roofing and she stays in the field all day. we have a big store with all the sundry items and ladders, all the workmen have had there legs nipped (i do warn them) they have worked out though if thy put there hi vis on she hides. it is funny watching these big 6ft men get out there vans and put the hi vis on just to get a bag of nails.LOL
I don't think mine would, they'd probably just think it was all a big game!
I don't think Star understands how to be aggressive . Alfie might have a go but I don't think he'd make much of an impact because he's such a little runt!
I would hope that no one would come near me with my pack!
One definatly would and he has before. A drunk approached ,my mum and i walking to the shop and he could see that we were nurvous and he put the guards up straight away, the drunk went on his way. Im not sure on the other 3 but i would hope so.
i doubt it but he does bark (only a few times) if a stranger (men not women) approaches me or comes into the office.
he also barks and growls if he hears something outside at home.
other than that he'd probably hide behind my legs!!
as a single woman living on her own i'd rather have a dog that barked when they thought danger was approaching, even if it wouldnt do anything. Rocky has woken me up in the night before when he thought there was someone in our back yard, turns out it was just a cat knocking over the dustbins but how was he to know!! lol.
Katie, my old catahoula, would have when she was in her prime. Hank, the younger catahoula, has warned off a dodgy looking stranger so I believe he would act to defend myself or my daughter if he believed we were being threatened. But he is not what I call agressive.
Don't discount small dogs as wussy. When I was younger I had a wire dachshund that was as sweet as could be. When my ex hubbie and I separated one night he sent one of his buddies over to "talk" to me. The guy was drunk, loud and threatening. My little dog positioned herself between the door and me and stood there, growling, teeth bared and hackles up until the police came. I have no doubt that if he had come through the door my dog would have attacked him. Another time there was a series of rapes in the town where I lived. The police caught the guy when he attacked a woman whose small poodle slept with her. The poodle attacked the rapist and distracted him long enough for the woman to get away and call the police. I have heard that the dog burglars fear most is the small yappy dog that creates a commotion, bites ankles and then ducks under furniture so its not an easy target.
Own a 10 month old GSD at the moment no she would run the opposite way, but like someone said earlier about their Dobie its nice to have a dog that visually looks like a guard dog but is a wimp lol
She is 10 months but already weighs in at just over 5 stone...
Here she is little lady...
She looks a little bit spooky, sorry my fault im no David Bailey lol
