I have a horse that cut the outside of his fetlock joint very badly two weeks ago. The wound has been cleaned and re bandaged daily, and i have just started to take the bandage off during the day to let the air get to it so it can start to scab over and heal. However since taking the bandage off, she has developed a lump on the back of the tendon half way up the leg. This is no where near the wound but where the bandage has finished so presume is a pressure point. What can i do to help disperse it? and will it go? she still needs to be on box rest so turning out isn't a possibility but could walk out in hand. Also what about magnet boots? are they ok on a leg with an open wound?! Many Thanks!!

hi there,

my horse had surgery to remove splint bone in july and she had a bad pressure sore on the front of her canon bone. we just made sure when it was bandaged that there was even pressure and plenty of padding underneath bandage so the vet put the hospital gamgee on then soft band the crepe bandage the more gamgee followed by vet wrap and theis sorted the problem out. she was also on box rest although for 3 months. sorry can't coment of magnet boots as i was advised against them by vet. only due to having surgery. this is a picture of the pressure sore.

My horse had a pressure sore on her cannon bone v similar to tikino's horse. It healed completely and swelling also eventually disappeared (though unfortunately hair grew back white).
Good luck,

Fiona

Good luck,

thats a shame fiona my horses leg has compltely healed and i have the bonus that it was a white leg so unnoticable unless you run your hand down it and you can feel the scars from surgery and pressure sore
