My mare recently cut open her shoulder, and now it is starting to heal I was wondering if anyone recommended any creams/lotions/potions to encourage the healing process and hopefully reduce the production of excess scar tissue.

Any tips greatly appreciated.......

Thanks :-)

The best thing is to put pressure on the wound, but that's pretty hard to arrange on a horse's shoulder. When my grey had some terrible cuts, the Vet recommended that I put that yellow Summer Fly Cream on them to keep the flies off, but apart from that to leave them alone. They healed really well. :) If you do get some, wear gloves when you apply it or you will have yellow hands.

My ex eventer had an altercation with a strainer a couple of years ago, injuring his should er very badly ( 60 stitches and 3+ hrs work to put him back together). We used hydrogel type gels, but really it was impossible to keep dressing on it.
In the end we got a couple of shoulder savers, and he went out in the field with that on to keep the flies off and it worked a treat.

There is a product called animal pollster which is sticky and is quite successfull at holding dressings in place. Maybe that with the shoulder saver?
