Hello and thanks for having a look at this posting. Any experiences would be welcome..

My horse has a kick injury just above her near foreleg. There is a small wound which has been seen by the vet. He advised us to clean it out twice a day (with hibi scrub), put a barrier cream on it (vaseline/sudocrem) and keep her out in the field. He also left a course of anti biotics for her.

It happened on Tuesday (not sure of exact time but I caught her at about 5ish and saw it then, vet thought it was quite recent)

Last night it had swollen up around the wound (in a bit of a hoof shape) and was tender. This morning it was no different. The wound is healing and looks clean. However, tonight it looks even more swollen.

Is this normal?
 
You do normally get some swelling around a kick injury. My cob has just had one on the point of his shoulder and it swelled up into a sort of conical shape and was quite large. I just kept bathing it and putting antiseptic on it but it did take about a week to go down completely. Keep a good eye on it - if you're not happy in a day or so get your vet out again but these injuries do tend to look alarming at first.

Spoke to vet again today who agreed it was just fluid collecting and he said tack her up and go for a walk. She's a pretty slow lawn mower in the field and doesn't use any more energy than needed! However, different story when ridden and so the fluid started to disperse and the lump was reduced significantly just during a 40 minute walk!! Feeling a bit more like we are on the right path again!
 
Hiya, just spotted your post.

Drifter had a small kick wound on his foreleg in march.

It was on the outside of his leg halfway between knee and elbow. He had it stapled and I was advised to ride him because like yours his upper foreleg filled horrendously. He was stabled at the time so I walked in hand am again at lunchtime and rode lightly in the evening. I could not believe the amount of fill didnt mean something horrendous was wrong. If memory serves me right it took about 10 days to calm down.
