Glad to hear you are raising the same amount. I haven't seen you say it,

That's because I don't talk about it unless there's a reason. I'm still not sure why I need to justify myself though.

Again, I point out the difference in price, therefore making this trade more financially viable as they have a backup

Unless you are weighing each and every one of these horses, you cannot possibly tell. They are still meat money, and to my mind it is no different to buying a racehorse from the sales for that price. The meat guys are after them too. I am taking a 4yo Lusitano, unbroken, clean limbed but wormy looking. He's about £500. I would probably have bought him at a sale. I think he deserves a chance, he's just a baby, and I really for the life of me cannot understand why people who purport to be horse lovers want to shoot me down in flames because I have some compassion.
I was not the one who put the thread up. I only came on this thread to try my best to explain what it is like over here, and how what I raised money for before is much more real to me now that I see and understand the horrors far more.
The butcher trade goes on all the time, a few people buying some horses to give them a future will not stop it, but it also will not increase it. Yes they might fill the lorry slots, but they won't put on more lorries.
I am still struggling to see why taking a few away from the horrors of the journey should be cause to be attacked on a forum.
However, if nothing else, the amount of hits that this thread has had will perhaps have given some information out to some other people who might now want to help the campaign. It was because I saw a thread on another forum in France (not the IHDG that everyone is bitching about, I have never been on it) that I contacted the ILPH as regards doing something for them again. That thread was supportive of those doing their best to help so I felt encouraged to do so. Hopefully the vitriol from some other posters will not have put others off doing the same on this thread.
So I'm butting out of this thread now, I've said my piece and imparted as much information as I can, and I don't want to go round in circles any more. I just want to finish with this, and it is not meant to be patronising, so please don't look for more to fight about.
This is about the horses.
If anyone out there reading this who has not been aware of this before, and wants to help stop the live LONG HAUL transport of horses, the old and sick, the weak and the young, some of whom die in transit, some who are born in transit and trampled to death, please contact the ILPH and offer your support, even if it is just to write a letter to your MP, or MEP. They are looking to do a huge push around September/October time, so if you have a moment, please send them an email for advice on what to do.

I do not know who Nuffield is either, or watakerfuffle for that matter
I cannot speak for the others but we have rescued an older mare, who looks to have ringbone and is mildly lame. Apart from that and a good de-louse she is so sweet. She will be a companion with no expectations on her. She will live out 24/7 with the herd and hopefully live out her days without fear and in good company.
The lady who lives in Italy is clearly upset because she wants some horse to go with her fries and we ahve brought the recent lot to the UK instead

the lady in Italy has, if you've been a member on here for longer than 2 seconds, has a "rescue" pony and donkey or two, herself!!!
look back in HHO archives........she isnt the devil incarnate.....do your bloody homework, get off the bandwagon.
Mairi lives in Italy...she isnt Italian....but has been, and as far as i know still is, well informed about the markets over there...so VERY qualified...not just going off half-cock after reading "emotive" websites.

Horses can NOT legally travel 24 hours without being checked. The 2007 Regulations regarding horse transport are very strict and apply to all transporters in Europe. Lorries must stop after 8 hours to feed/water. They must be unloaded after 24 hours - then rest for 24 hours. In reality the driving time can not exceed 22 hours - as this would then be in breach of taco laws. All lorries must have fans and recordable temperature monitoring. Ramps must not exceed a set angle. Partitions must be used. Sufficient feed and water for the number of horses must be carried on board etc. etc. All transporters travelling distances taking longer than 8 hours must have a T2 authorisation and lorries carry an approval plate to show that the lorry itself has been approved.

That may be the law but it sure as hell does not happen that way for the horses transported from Poland to Italy so why would the french transporters be any different? The UK is propably the only country in the EU that sticks to the law which is why the ILPH is getting involved - they would not do so if there were not a need to.
