Following on from the breastplate post - I was wondering if the above girths made any difference to the horse's way of going by removing restrictions?

I am the proud owner of a very laid back ISH who needs no excuse to get the dawdles. One of the things that 'blocks' him is too much leg... seemed odd at first as I thought I *needed* lots of leg to try to create some energy. However, the best way to coax some life out of him is in fact to tickle with the whip, sit quietly & AVOID clamping on with the leg as it shuts him down.

So I was wondering whether a traditional girth is blocking him in the same way as an unsympathetic leg, & whether it might be a good idea to try something different? Or am I clutching at straws here??

(He is in fantastic health, regularly seen by a good chiro as recommended by Thistle, teeth are done regularly, WOW is re-done regularly, he is very sound... he is just the sort of horse that if he were a person, he'd be tucked up on the sofa with a pizza & a stack of DVDs & the remote control.

I have a lazy WB & work hard keeping him thinking forward, he sounds similar to your horse. I tried the H Girth In December on a routine Fitting Check of my WOW, for virtually the same reasons as yourself.
My fitter let me have the girth for 2 weeks & TBH i couldnt tell any difference. So I returned it & bought a new Wintec girth instead.

However i wouldnt put you off trying a H girth as ive heard fantastic results, my horse obviously didnt need one.

That's interesting... Pls do share if you've got any other 'forward' tips... He is 6 & sometimes it's like riding a 30 year old patent safety riding school plod... If bullied, he bucks, gets cross & does *less*...

Moving up from Allen & Page Calm & Cond to Power & Perf made prob a 30% difference & I've been considering nudging up again to their Light Comp, but their website says Light Comp is fast release energy & we need slow really i.e. P&P cos otherwise we work well for 15 mins & then completely die.

Either would distribute the pressure over a wider area, which is always a good thing. So its worth a try to see if your theory is correct. The H girth distributes pressure more than the W and you have to be spot on with the size of the W so the cut out bits are in the right place.

We had to have an H girth for Rafi as every saddle slipped on him , he has now changed shape and no longer needs it .We want to sell it if you decide to buy one. I can put a picture of Rafi wearing it if you need to see one.
