WOW - Rolette sold for 3.5million!

Okay, just to put all this into some kind of perspective...

Robert Lourie works for Renaissance Technologies Llc where he is probably the equivilent of number 2 or number 3 most senior person. The number 1 guy there, in 2006, took hom a bonus of.....wait for this......$1.7bn (that's BILLION!!!)

The AVERAGE bonus paid to a hedge fund manager in 2006 was $570m !

I don't think Rolette would even constitute loose change in those numbers do you

Well done to Rolette's owners for bringing a huge injection of cash into the sport in this country is all I would say...hell, for £3.5m you'd be able to buy 10 top youngsters at least !

If you look at the Spy Coast Farm website you'll see a number of good european horses have been sold to themmmmainly by the Quigley's it seems. Don't be surprised if Rolette changes her name though too...

[/ QUOTE ]

Just did that - nothing much on there at all. Half a dozen brood mares, none of which I recognise, and only La Rumba (under "horses") has European breeding. Am I looking at the right website?

If you look under Show Horses you might recognise a few ?

Vivaldi...former Foxhunter and 7yo finalist.

Little Emir...former mount of Lee Williams

Sienna and Triviant both came from the Quigley's too.

Query, it says the rider is irish, anyone know what nationality he rides for?

Ireland

So with Rolette, Lantinus (perhaps) and Castle Forbes Libertina...plus others... they could field a pretty strong team in future

I really hope she goes well for Shane, and that she gets well looked after and loved!
She will be a huge loss for Ben and hugely missed by all!!

The world is full of very wealthy people and in the US there are plenty of wealthy patrons who get a tremendous kick from knowing they own an Olympic level horse. They don't necessarily want to ride it. There are also lots of yanks who will pay big bucks to have a foal from Rolette, and she can have loads of them by embryo transfer.

I don't know the woman's name, but there is a US heiress who routinely buys top class horses who are near the end of their competition lives and retire them to her "farm", she has top class race horses , jumpers, dressage horses.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're probably thinking of Jane Clark. At one point she owned at least one horse in each discipline at the Olympics and she was the one that bought FBW Kennedy for Robert Dover to ride. Jacqueline Mars (like the candy bar) has also been a big owner for people like the O'Connors. There are a lot of people with a lot of money in the US.

It will be interesting to see who, in the end, the horse is really for. There have been quite a few horses in the past decade or so bought for effectively the child of the owner to ride, even if they spent some time getting "made up" with a the hired pro. Eric Lamaze's owners daughter now rides his last two GP mounts and another Canadian ex-Olympian, Mario Deslauries, sold his potential Olympic horse last year for a girl who is, I think, 13 or 14 right now to ride eventually. There have even been a few cases of people expecting the kid to ride the GP horse right off but generally those haven't worked out so well.

C'est la vie. Horse are expensive and if you can pay, you can play.

I'm sure the horse will have a lovely life, although she likely won't know what to do with herself when it's sunny all the time.

yup, that's fantastic ;p I don't mind this sale at all
laugh.gif
just hope we might get to see her as not heard of the rider before.

Well, allegedly she failed the vet...so it could be a knockdown price

I am amazed that you know so much about horse and new owners, is nothing private and personal. Good luck to the new owner and rider and happy home to horse.

that is the power of the internet, any detail that is public record is on there somewhere, and so the only thing not confirmed is the price because the new owners have declined to do so. as i said earlier i hear it was 3.5 million dollars not pounds not that it really makes any difference to us, its just interesting, most of us wish we had that much money to spend on horses!!

The new owners have a website detailing everything about their equestrian business...and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out where hubby works when he's one of the highest paid people in New York

I think everyone agrees that it's a case of good luck to horse and new owners....but a sal of this sort will always arowse public interest. The internet just makes finding out the details a little easier

Um....
Just thought I'd mention that Rolette is gonna be my stallion's new stable mate.....
Amaretto moved there last month,if anyone remembers?

Don't forget that Luidam sold for over a million sterling & sadly then had a sandcrack so missed the olympics with Billy & also had to be hob-dayed I think?
Least being a stallion with a stud fee over 1K he can recouperate some of his costs. Not seen much of him lately though?

If you think of how much race horses go for and also their ludicrous stud fees its actually not that much. especially if the owners have experience in the racing industry-its probably a bargain to them.

With regard to an earlier post by Astra concerning Escapado he has in fact won 2 CDI`s in the last month.....

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it was forester who made the comment that Escapado had been sold, never to be heard from again.

In fact, to be fair, the horse sustained a major injury shortly after being sold and there seems to be some implication he also had/had hoof trouble as well. Reports from his recent come back say he's in fine form.

Also, the rider he went to, while not known at the top tier, is highly regarded, especially as a producer and has had much success up to small tour. So not exactly sold to an unknown. Maybe not what everyone wants to hear but there it is.

There have been some amazing deals done. There are at least two GP horses in Canada that changed hands for somewhere in the million dollar range and there is relatively NO money for horse sports there. One is with an amateur just coming up, the other is with someone who has ridden at GP but has taken time off so likely neither will ever be seen much internationally again.

It's not at all unusual for junior/amateur horses in the US to change hands for "house money" - a few years back, rumour has it, a small hunter pony (what hunter people call a 128cm) changed hands for $850,000!

Absolutely bonkers, if you ask me, but then again, I doubt that sort of person cares what I think.

OOps yes it was forester not astra!Escapado`s new rider has just won a Team silver at the Olympics so i wouldn`t say he`s not known at the top tier, although it`s taken him a while to come through he certainly has a top string of horses and we`ll be seeing a lot more from him.

All this speculation about the price paid for rollette..... and you are still selling her short !!!! If the owners were willing to accept 3.5 million someone in this country would have bought her.

Sorry, wasn't saying he's not a top rider, just that he wasn't particularly well known on a general level - he was certainly well known for his Young Horse triumphs! It was only to the original comment that the horses was "never heard from again", which might have been partly because his rider is not as well known as say, Isabel, outside of Germany so his every action is not reported here.

The Germans are just so deep in dressage, they probably have enough riders at any given time to field a couple of teams!
