Had my saddle tweaked 6 weeks ago and since then every flippin numnah I have underneath it is slipping backwards. With a sensitive horse who has lameness issues its very hard to tell whether she's sore or getting p'd off by the numnah moving. Can't get the saddle fitter back out for a couple of weeks so was wondering if anyone uses the wool numnahs and if they stay put better than the thin material ones.

Full wool, half wool - thoughts? Not cheap and I'm having a month of vets bills bigger than my mortgage but if needs must......

None of my wool numnahs seem to move, but I would be worried about the thickness of a wool one changing the fitting of your saddle if your saddle was fitted with a thin cotton numnah.

Nuumed really aren't much thicker than a cotton pad, unlike sheepskin which is always thicker. However I can't imagine it will be any guarantee of fixing the issue, but if you do get one then half wool is recommended, full wool means your leg has less contact with the horse. Usually a numnah moving backwards is an indication that the saddle is trying to move forwards. Sometimes fixable, sometimes not (after all if the saddle doesn't actually move forwards it's not a great problem in itself), for the odd one that's not all Mattes numnahs, literally every type they make for English saddles, comes with slots for their optional clip system to attach it to the saddle. You would need to check if the clip system works on a Wow.

I had to put a couple of stitches in the girth keepers to make my nuumeds stay in place with a wow.
I use Lemieux now instead which don't move at all.

I only use the nuumed sheepskin numnahs on my horse who's saddle can slip and I would say they really do help the saddle to stay put, but because they are that much thicker they can change the way a saddle fits as mentioned above, I have heard the acavallo anti slip gel pads are really good I often see second hand ones for sale.

This morning I thought the saddle was going back - but given the numnah was definitely going back then it might have just been how I perceived it. I'm not sure whether she's changed shape in the last 6 weeks or the saddler did tweaks that weren't right, but I definitely felt like we weren't a stable horse:saddle:rider combination this morning. I've had a look at the Mattes ones and their clips look interesting - will have a nosey at the saddle later to see if it'll work.

[liking this multi quote stuff!] Interesting about Lemieux. Easier for me to get hold of as they are stocked locally - are you just using the normal ones?

& yes, bit worried I'll spend the money on a sheepskin or wool numnah, the saddler will come back out and it will be redundant.

I always use the half wool ones under my WOW saddle. (and have the saddle fitted accordingly)

I have found that the Nuumed ones will slip back sometimes - but that the Le Mieux one (half wool lined) doesn't move.

Would however comment that the Lemieux one is thick enough to change fit of saddle.

I use the Nuumed half lined ones, with the saddle fitted with them, wouldn't say they were incredibly thick but thicker than a thin cotton one. I've never had any problems with them moving generally and I hate to say it but the only times I've had problems with numnahs moving there's been a problem with the saddle fit.
