I am having to get a new saddle and am very tempted with the WOW and I was just wondering if any one had a ball park figure of how much one of these would set me back.

Thanks in advance.

Around the 1500 pound mark for the competitive version. Much depends on if youre charged extra for the fitting and whether or not they throw the stirrup leathers in with the saddle (not all do)

You want to set aside £2,000 if you want an extra set of flaps aswell.

kerilli- £1,800 for an ex-demo?!

My local fitter sells ex-demos for £995.

I paid 1300 for my original dressage saddle when they first came out & 1500 for my new competitor dressage saddle back in july - including leathers & fitting. They are fantastic & well worth the investment. Might be worth looking on ebay though as they do come up from time to time - I've seen them go for about 700 in the past, then you just need to get a saddler out for a 're-fit'

I'm pretty sure it was that much. Might have been £1350 actually, oops. Definitely wasn't £995.

_Claire_, good job i had to get a full refund then, because it made my mare's back sore. nice to know i got ripped off as well though.
i loved it, it felt great for me, but the lump it brought up every time, and after two re-fits which still came up, was completely unacceptable. the lump has finally (months later) stopped coming up now... ggrrr.

I think it is good you got a refund, as even £1,350 is too much for an ex-demo IMO. Like someone said before you can easily get a lovely wow on ebay for £800. Shame it made your mare sore though

kerilli sounds like your fitter was having a laugh - over charging (unless you got extra flaps??) and not fitting properly.

I wouldn't necessarily write wow's off as only David managed to fit my horse. Even so I still get dry patches, but then I do with every saddle due to his weird weird shape!

Daisy Duck, a word of warning - I have heard very dodgy reports about the WOW saddle fitter from your area.

If you decide to go for a WOW when it is fitted make sure you use your common sense and check that it looks right. ask her to explain why it has been fitted in such a way.

They are amazing saddles when fitted properly.

PM me if you would like more details

Yes her fitter would be Lorna Hamilton and through past experience, theres no way id let her near mine

Some people mentioned picking up the saddles second hand and yes its an option but a word of caution.... If you pay 800 for a saddle on ebay with NO idea what size your horse needs you could get stung very very badly on the refit. The headplates arent too bad... 80 pounds for the magnesium but if you mess up on the panel fittings you're going to be stung with 400 pounds for new panels straight away.

Id absolutely not go with this option unless you have a decent knowledge about the wow saddles and saddle fitting in general.

Back to the original point, Id also find a different fitter than Lorna which would probably mean you need to contact First Thought Equine directly and ask them to recommend someone else who would come to your area. I was based in derbyshire when i had mine fitted and ended up having David and Maggie (who own FTE) fit mine - but i was fortunate in that i was based close to richard davison and him and my trainer were friends, so i popped over and snuck in on his fittings.

Hi i used ted bogis from milton keynes he was great spent loads of time with mickey my horse i paid 1595 brand new with leathers and all custom bits i wanted including fitting and the i brought a jump one exactly same panels and ted just adjusted the air and i paid 850 for that one which had been used for 6 months as ex demo, delighted very good saddles and my horse has put on loads of top line!

Thanks for your replies- if I go down this route I know I'd need a good saddler fitter as this seems to make all the difference. and I guess stay clear of Lorna!
A woman who works for richard davidson teaches at our yard so might be cheeky and see if I can sneak in on his fittings too !!

Buying saddles is a minefield.

My Wow Club (list price £1000, but I paid less) was fitted by George at Dosthill Saddlery. Some of my friends swear by Lorna Hamilton and say she is excellent.

1800- mine was less than that with my extra set of flaps and 2 sets of leathers...it was a year or so and we hd 3 of us buy at the same time so was reduced rates a bit....and that was a new saddle.

That's what I thought!!

I paid £850 for ex-demo (well £650 but had changes made- different panels and headplate) Mind you twas off ebay and is badly faded! ( I already had a wow so knew what I needed- wouldnt recommend this for the first one ) No stirrup leathers but lightweight headplate and cover.

The price for a wow is about £1600. For this you should get the stirrup leathers and cover. I think it's more if you need the foregirth option and obviously more (£140ish)if you need the zig-zag girth (mine did, sods law, as normal girths cut into her with the wow saddle)

I paid £750 for a secondhand ebay one.I choose one with wide gusset and tabs as I know our horse is a problem to fit as he has low withers and a barrel belly.number 1 and 3 plates [using 3]David fitted it at Richard Davison's last week and we needed an H girth which cost £145.
Love the saddle but not all horses would put up with an H girth

I paid £1595 for my new WOW including Stirrup leathers & fleecy cover.

My other WOW i bought for £765 off Ebay & luckly for me all we had to do when fitting it to my TB was change a headplaite.

The competitor range retails at £1595, this includes leathers and a saddle cover
The club is currently £1095 with foams panels and a cover. to upgrade to flair is another £250 and stirrup leathers are £59

A couple of customers have had a problem with a WOW supplier and mentioned her above, one by name. Since my own experience of that person is so very different, I would like to balance the picture.

I have used Lorna Hamilton to fit my three WOW saddles (one off eBay, one new and one ex-demo/new flaps from her) and I have just ordered my fourth, again from her. She is the only saddle fitter, after 30 years experience of many "Master Saddlers" that I will let anywhere near a horse of mine.

Regarding the saddles themselves, WOW make no secret of the fact that some horses are sensitive to the airbag overlap in WOW Flaired saddles. They have even produced foam panels to overcome that issue. That's not WOW's fault, it's a fact of life with air filling. I'm sure they'd replace the panels with foam if they were consulted about it. As a multiple horse owner of babies that keep changing shape, I personally love the adjustability of the air. So I use a Geleze which removes any problems with the thin skinned ones.

Lorna herself I find a joy to deal with, always helpful and pleasant to be around. She really knows her stuff with difficult to fit horses. And talking to someone who actually competes as I do, in contrast to many fitters who don't even ride, is a breath of fresh air. My first saddle was not perfect for the horse once it had bedded in. Most saddlers would have charged me to part-ex it for a better fit, since it was "second hand" by then. In complete contrast, Lorna's attention to getting it right for him and for me was absolutely unbeatable.

I have had two WOW saddles and I am absolutely thrilled with them I wouldn't use another saddle on my horses, its just a shame they don't make a Western version! All of my saddles have been fitted by Lorna Hamilton and her attention to detail is second to none, my first horse was extremely difficult to fit and this meant he had to have several fittings and while I had no saddle Lorna kindly lent me a demo saddle all without any extra charge! Lorna has fitted my saddles on 5 different horses for me and I personally would not let another saddle fitter within a mile of my horses. WOW saddles are a relatively new inovation and the only problem that I experienced is that one of my horses built muscle so quickly with the WOW saddle that she went up 2 head plates in 2 months, Lorna came and did refits and again I was not charged I only wish other saddle fitters were more conscientious. I would recomend Lorna and indeed I have advised several people to use her and they have all been of the same opinion. Some horses are notoriously difficult to fit and some people are notoriously difficult to please.
